on the road at 7 from the hotel at the denver airport I got to Lawrence KS in time for a nice steak dinner in the late afternoon

That is about a half hour west of KC (safe place to stay)

I think I stayed at Bishop Motel  They can give you directions to the nice steak house

It's best to travel it after dark. Cheesy  Otherwise it will bore you to Cry

I did go through once when there was a little daylight.  I seen a big rock and a gully.  That was it. Wink

Actually...it is longer than an eternity...or so it seems.

Left Frisco, CO at 7am (MST) (8am CST) and made it to Columbia, MO at 9:30pm (CST).  We only stopped for gas and eats.

you guys are beating up on my home state  tickedoff

But, I have to agree it was hot and took forever....  Lot's of cops on the highway too... so don't go too fast!!!   when you get out of denver the speed limit jumps to 75 until you hit the state line and then kansas is only 70. (they don't want you to miss anything)  2funny

Anyhow... if you blast across your fuel economy is out the window but it is worth it....  It's raining here right now in Topeka and is suppose to have decent weather after tonights rain clears out... I think thursday's high is 77...

Be safe and if you want to get some good ice cream in topeka, get off on the first exit.. I believe it is exit 356 (Wanamaker rd) there is a custard place on the east side of the road and you can fill up on the west side.  Or you can cruise down for about a 1/2 mile and eat at spangles.. they have good shakes and burgers are good too!!!  That's what my two cousin's on VTX's and Mack did for a break....  I then headed home 10 min away and those three hit the road for another 2+ hours...    Cheesy Cheesy

I want to take you to a place down by our "mountains" of the rolling hills..  It's a hole in the wall restaurant but they have awesome food.  Shoot me an email or give me a call sometime..

I don't know how long it takes, but when we went through there in the mid nineties (with four small kids coming back from the grand canyon), my wife decided to extend our visit to Kansas by visiting Prairie Dog Town.  DOH!

NOT RECOMMENDED!

Yes all of us Kansans need to get together sometime. We're all so busy going out of state to ride we never ride together in Kansas. FYI, Valkhound and I ride up to highway 99 quite often. It's just been a on off year and we haven't even done that much.

Joe/Captain I have to admit that I really enjoyed my ride through your state, especially the windmill farms that were visible from the interstate.  HOWEVER...I am still a bit pissed at whoever in the Kansas legislature interrupted my ride east of Topeka with that DAMN tollgate....on the interstate of all places!!

JimL,

I had an awesome time with you and thanks for arriving a tad late in Enid,Ok.  It gave me a chance to down some much needed caffeine!!!  I had a wonderful time...   In regards to the turnpike, I agree and how they manage to charge out two wheelers for two axles is beyond me.  They should charge cars with four in my opinion.  What a joke!!   Crazyhorse was hit with three axles he was pulling that trailer of his.  I have managed to find some wonderful roads to bypass the turnpike when I go to Kansas City.  I feel your pain, atleast you don't have to live right next to it to remind yourself of a once temporary charge turn into a multimillion dollar investment for the state......

Captain/Engemt/hoser I agree...  We have more valks in our state than we would have thought and I am up for a ride anywhere anytime...  I like the Main Street Pub and Grill in Allen,ks.  You probably never heard of it but it does exist.  I found it on my Zumo one day riding through Eskridge we were looking for a bite to eat and that came up.  It is a whole in the wall but they have one of the best burgers you have ever had.  I took a couple buddies there last month and we pull into the town...  No filling station, no town hall.. nothing just a good ole country town where the locals hang out.  It isn't very big but they love to have visitors and the first time I was there they came out and took our picture with the bikes and they hang them on the walls inside...  Did I mention good food??  Let's go!! It's raining here but I'm good... My bike reduced the population of insects on the way back from Frisco so it could use a good soaking..

keep in touch and let me know when... I am off for three weeks Smiley

Heck... I'll go.. I'm not doing anything....

Hey Captain... I just looked on the VRCC registration and we have over 260 members in kansas.  I know that some may no longer own a valk but even if 50% do that is still quite a bit of valkyrie's in kansas...
