Tomorrow is suppose to be pretty nice.  Is any one interested in a nice easy cruise, around Plano, maybe cruise down to Dallas?  I very recently bought a '98 Valkyrie, and I'm re-learning how much fun it was to have one.  I am a little disappointed on how far we can go on a tank, or maybe its just mine, @100 miles on a tank?  Is that right?  Seems kind of low, but then again, I don't know how far it will go on one.

Spending the afternoon installing and adjusting highway pegs.

On my Interstate, I got 192 miles on the tank and the little light started flashing.  Wasn't even on reserve yet.  38mpg on a bike that was sitting for 6 months.  Wow.

100 miles on a tank is low.  Recommend you run some Techron thru it, which may clean up the carbs and improve the mileage.

I always get the flashing led before reserve on my interstates.

Yes, I know I am getting close and am planning on gas shortly, but the flashing led is irritating.  Danger, danger Will Robinson.  Oh shut up!!!

I trust the trip meter (reset every fillup) more than the gas gauge, and have had the flashing for many miles before the engine begins stumbling for reserve.

Ain't in TX, but will be the warmest day of the year tomorrow at my house, and I'm off for a ride myself.

Work is becoming only a distant, unpleasant memory.

If you're getting 100 miles to either reserve or empty on an Interstate, look for gas running out of holes in the tank.   Wink  I'm guessing you don't have an Interstate.

On a Standard/Tourer,  100 miles to reserve is a little low, MPG wise.  100 miles to empty is pretty bad.

Typical MPG is 32 to 38 MPG.  A few get more, many get that or less, but it tends to be extremely variable tank-to-tank.  However, consistently less than 20 MPG (as your post indicates) means some kind of issue or bad riding conditions (headwind.)

I suggest collecting several tanks of MPG data.

Concur on all.  I find that different people call different things "empty".  I've heard "empty" described as "I'm getting nervous about fuel", or "I hit reserve", or "I had to push it the last five miles".  Either way, more data is your friend here.

If it is a standard or tourer you should get at least 135 or better before res.  Fill bike up and stand it up level and you"ll get another half gallon or better in the tank. The worst I ever got on my tourer was 28 mpg and that was two up I-10 west running 75 into a 30mph head wind.

Also, if you stick the gas nozzle in the tank and pump gas until it automatically shuts off then put up the nozzle,  you have NOT got a full tank of gas.  I put about another full gallon in my tank after an auto shut off.  Normally, I just watch closely and hold the nozzle out far enough that I can see how full it is getting.

Good luck with it and ride safely.
