I started my desmog today and have run into some snags. I have stuff not in the pix in the desmog instructions in Shoptalk. I think it's because she's a California bike. There's a doodad to the rear of the Pair valve connected by a hose:

The foreward part of this gizmo is another with two hoses, labeled 6:

that lead to a T connecting the rear two carbs on each side:

I'm thinking of removing the device and just plugging the hoses. Has anyone doe this, and could I run into problems because of it?

OK, I found the other Desmog item that shows these things removed, but it doesn't say what to pull or what to plug. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I can only tell you what I did to mine.  I just got her back together so I don't know if what I did works  2funny

If you go to shop talk and read "Removing the smog"  you will see this link for CA bikes
CA De-Smog notes by Tim Skelton

It shows that you leave the two #6 hoses because they go to the Air Vent rails,
on the diaphram that they connect to you plug the small port with a vac cap and you buy a crankcase filter and push it onto the bigger port of the diaphram.
Purolator B13153 or Fram BA3812
also it shows that you have a 6 way T that you run vac hoses to all the carbs and then it says to PLUG this T, there is a pic of that.

I just did away with all the hoses and put Vac caps on all the Carb ports, I mean if I'm plugging the T why do I need all those hoses?  Much cleaner.. cooldude
On the #3 carb there is a second port on the bottom side that needs to be plugged also.

Hope this help,
Wewa

Thanks, Wewa, I saw that and didn't realize it was a link. I was going to plug the '6' hoses but now will leave them alone. I'll get rid of the 6-way T and cap the individual hoses out of the way. I'll be keeping everything so that if I have problems I can put it all back.
