Xenon HID
«
on:

I am thinking of putting a Bi-Xenon HID in my headlight. But I have like many of you a US version standard Valk. So I don't have an on / off switch for my headlight.
Now do I need to ad an extra switch or relais or will the plug an play work for me?
And if I do need to put in some, where is the best place to put it?
TIA Ivo

Since the xenon draws less current than the oem halogen, I don't see the need for a relay or a switch. I've had my eye on a hi/lo xenon myself (one that moves the bulb when you switch to hi-beam).

I am not worried about the current.
But when you start your Valk the light is being killed at that moment. I don't know how that will work with the Xenon ballast. Will it just come on again, or will the safety failure of the ballast kick in and never come on again.
Since we have no on / off switch it is impossible to reset.

You can put a switch on it or just push the button in and then turn the key on. This keeps the HID
from coming on and then off and on again. Hope this helps.

Yes, thank you.
At least there is a way to reset the HID when it does not switch on. Can allways put a time delay relais in afterwards.

If you push the starter button with the clutch out (engaged) and in gear, it will shut the headlight off and not run the starter motor. I do that when I want to flash my lights at someone.
Since the clutch needs to be pulled all the way in for the starter motor interlock to work, I've done it with the clutch almost half way out, but not yet engaged.

I installed a plug-'n-play kit last year (Yana Shiki).
The light has never failed to come on when the bike starts, even when the light has been on with the engine off & the light has warmed up or when stopping for gas. I made no changes to my start & headlight switches.
It is the H4-8K kit and it offers both Low & Hi beam functions by tilting the bulb. The light output is excellent and it is all plug 'n play. It also comes in a 6K kit, I ordered this bulb in case I decide to go with a whiter light. I have all the components inside the headlight housing. If the bulb were to fail you can switch back to the standard bulb as easily as a regular bulb change.
