Tourer/Standard is DIFFERENT than the part number for a kickstand for an Interstate. Why is that? What is different about them? Can you put an Interstate kickstand on a Tourer?

Reason i ask, Sherry's bike leans WAY over. i've mentioned this here before. I thought SOMEONE might have said something about using an Interstate kickstand or something like that? So...........will it fit...what is different about it....why the different part number?

Also, what is that part that some have put on the foot of the kickstand to make it stand up more. You know, the chrome/stainless steel "little foot" that bolts onto the bottom of the kickstand? Who makes that.......what's called?

Tim, I know Rivco makes or at least sells (or used to) the piece you are asking about that bolts on to the foot of the kickstand. Not sure what it is called. I need to get one for my Interstate 'cause it leans way over. Much more than my standard.
Hope that helps.

Tim,

You can put a washer between the side stand mount and the frame, not on both sides, just on the side closest to the side stand.

I believe the difference between the I/S and the STD is the STD is polished and the I/S is rough finished.

That makes sense. Might just be enough to make it work for her? She has problems getting her Valk upright, especially on some slopes that "magnify" the angle/ problem. But everyone that has looked at her bike sitting next to mine, comments on how much further over it leans! It's noticeable..........

72   General / Tech Board / Rivco Kickstand Pad.  on: May 23, 2009, 09:24:18 AM
I had posted some time back that I ordered a Pad from CC that was for a Honda VTX, item number VTX013, but on the advise of JJ in the UK that it would fit a Valkyrie. Well, it won`t but it will with a little proding. Had to grind kickstand off on sides and top to get the pad to slide on. Raises bike up a little to help with those off camber parking lots.   Was it worth $44.90 total ?? It`s only money !!

This was my post in May. I ordered from CC. List for a 1800 VTX but will work on a Valk. Makes a lot differance in the lean and easier to lift of side stand.  cooldude

RedValk, at least it did`nt on mine. Did not take much grinding to fit. I used a Demel and took about 30 minutes.

my old 98 used to lean way over,, so i took a torch and bent the stand to make it sit a little more straight up,, later i found out that the mount was bent from hitting a curb,,,,straightend up the mount and had to buy a new stand,,,,

Make sure...after whatever mod you do...that it isn't upright so much that it would fall over if a tire goes flat.

What Jess said.  Make sure the crossmember isn't bent or broken. I nailed a bump in the road on a left hand turn, twisted and bent the crossmember to the point that it needed to be replaced. Didn't hurt the kickstand at all. Reused it.

Since I put on a belly tank the bike leans less and I really like it. That was one of the Small things that I wanted to change, the angle is so much better.

Even the Valk specific Rivco kickstand pod was extremely tight going on. I seem to recall having to do some hammer re-enforcement to get it into place. I personally thought it was a butt ugly add-on but it did help a bit with the lean. Without it, the gas and photo op stops were a chore just to right it for take off. It wore on me cruising down the California Coast. The Tourer I bought it for had Progressive front springs and prog rear shocks (I think the 13 inchers). I attributed the excessive lean to those two factors, the stand itself side by side with my Standard seem to be aligned correctly and not bent.

Can't believe they're now going for $100.00.   Angry

Here's a shot of the ole gal I once shared several thousand miles with. That Corbin seat and I did not work well together...

Tim Bob.......

When Sherry goes to take her bike off the side stand do this 1st.

Crank the handlebars HARD right, leave them there and raise the bike up.  Mucho easier............

Good Luck on your Rivco stand hunt.  The stand Rivco made for the Valk, had to have a little bit of 'Harley hammer' persuasion.......

Another thing you can do is, well when winter comes, take the stand off, take it to a welding or fabrication shop and have them weld a 2 1/2 to 3" pad on the bottom.    Then take it and have it chromed..........  Problem solved.

Tim you can also go with a low profile rear tire (I'm running a 200-60-16) . I have lower shocks and a low profile tire and my black Valk sits up very good. However Sherry might not want to lower her Valk.
