rostra cruise install

Finally got the Rostra cruise control installed and working. Rode the bike all day today.
Hardware and wiring took some time. My bike is not desmogged so the standard cable hookup did not work. ended  up modifying the brackets that came with the unit. Also used the Audiovox control pad and it appears to have some problems. one of the buttons does not line to work.

Required the use of a normally closed 5 pin and a standard 4 pin relay.







Used yellow green brake wire from the front brake.( to relay for purple brake wire feedback)
Yellow Black from the speed transmitter( Gray wire for speed)
Yellow green in the harness going to the dash for tack. ( Blue wire for tack)

Pink wire from controller goes to on of the relays getting control from an orange wire from the main unit for the engaged light. 

All power wires (Brown and red in harness and white from control assembly) Wired to assessory power I had ran up front for my GPS.

I also did the CTS modification and installed a new petcock and air filter while I had the tank pulled.

It took me about 4 rides to get the gain and speed dip switches right.

Since you had everything off you should have gone ahead and desmogged the engine. Gets rid of possible vacuum leaks down the road, which are pretty much guaranteed as the bike ages. And, gives you a lot more room to work with down there.

Has anyone with an I/S, installed the new rostra ALL electronic cruise control sucessfully!  can they post pics, wiring, steps?  seems like for ~$150 something I'd like to add, if it works

Marcus installed it on his interstate. I've installed 5 or 6 of the vacuum units on all types of valks over the years and never had a problem with them. mine did died on me after 6 years and over a 100K miles. Bought a new one and never looked back.

What is the cts modification??? Looked and can not find... Also why did you use a relay for the4 purple wire??? It just needs a 12 volt signal... I thought????

I ended up with 3, 11-12 down, all others up.

I believe the gain depends on how much slack you've got in your connection to the carb linkage.

I recommend leaving the fairing off and taking the Rostra book, a flashlight and something to move the dip switches on a ride down the highway.   Try different gain settings until you get it set the way you like it.

Been running the electronic Rostra for over 4 years now and works like a champ.

Hi. I've had my '99 Valk IS for two months, now. Added the Rostra Electronic cruise but when I connect the speed sensor to the gray wire, I lose my speedo. Do you have any thoughts on that? Also, I can't seem to find an answer to the question posed about the need for your relays...

I installed a Rostra Cruise Control on my '98 Tourer over the winter.  The install on a Tourer was a little more complicated than that on a I/S, but well worth it.  I used the magnetic speed sensor mounted on the left side of the rear wheel hub.  On the first ride with it this afternoon, everything was working, but the unit was pulsating the throttle too much.  I assume I can iron that out with the switch settings.  I took a lot of pictures during the install process, and hope to post the Tourer installation in the near future...

4:00 pm update.  I tweeted three switches, all are now off, and the cruise control is working well at 55 mph.  Will have to get out and try it at 75...
