Hello all..  ok..  I have read thru the threads on tires and pressures.. need to start another, sorry..
just put on a set of Avon Cobras.. running 40f/38r..  I have read how many run higher pressures on same tires for mileage, i get that.. what i don't get is that the max pressure listed on my AV72 rear is 41, i always thought you shouldn't run over listed max on the tire? I have a 5th wheel and its all about running the right pressures on the fiver and the truck, but never over listed max. Interestingly enuf my AV71 front has the rating numbers conveniently blotted out, never saw that before but it says.. max load (blotted out) at (blotted out) max psi, both side walls.. go figure.. the real reason behind this is... so what if, when i got my valk.. the dunnies that were on there were dated 12/02 (to me that's scary), good tread but hard as hell, no sidewall cracking at all.. . and i put about 200-300 miles on them until they got changed out today.. I immediately noticed she seemed to be more.... wallow-ey? at speed.. (hence the pressure questions) is it possible that i got used to the old hard tires and how she rode, and now with the new softer avons.. its different and just something you get used to? BTW managed to actually help the mechanic(think i found a good one in JAX,FL) put the rear wheel back together, and got to take in all that about the spline lube, 3 o rings, thrust washer, good molly, etc.. glad that maint is done and now i am familiar. Thanks in advance..  thoughts?

I'm D/S rear BUT in my front tire I keep it 43 to 44 P S I G. My front is a Shinko Journey S E 890. When I had a Metz 880 or the E-3 dunflop they were kept in the same P S I range. The rears if memory  uglystupid2 serves might be close to the same. Try upping the front to 44 P S I and the rear about the same. Are your gages accurate?? Reason I ask I had a slime digital that was was off. Fine tuning the tires to YOU is as important as fine tuning the suspension to you. RIDE SAFE.

Regardless of what that Avon shows for max inflation pressure, I would run the front 40 to 42 lbs and the rear at 42 to 44 lbs.  Avons Cobras are  good  tires but to get descent wear out of them keep the inflation higher as posted numerous times on this board.  Roll Eyes

If you cannot read MAX PSI on the sidewalls, go on line and find it.

I've been running on Avon Cobras for six years.  I've slowly increased the pressures to get better mileage out of them.  Current settings are at 41 psi front and 44 rear.  Now considering going D/S.

I'm on my 2nd set of Cobras and had 3-4 sets of Venoms before that. I run 42F and 46R and get excellent wear and no cupping. My last Rear Cobra went 26,970 miles and might have gone another 1000.

Wow, amazing what a few pounds of air will do! I didnt think it would matter much.. right now i have 42f/44r, (from 40f/38r) the wobble is gone and she runs down the road just like she owns it!
Thx all!
