Install OEM Saddlebags

Hello All,

I recently purchased a set of OEM Hard Saddlebags with the OEM brackets. Just got the bags back from the body shop as I had them repainted.

How difficult (what challenges are there) to install them myself.

Not much. But it would be most helpful to park beside a bike that already has them, and duplicate the installation.

Also, check Dag's site to see if he has the manual on how to install, but I don't think so.

You might need longer bolts for the top fender rail/fender bolts, not sure. Maybe again, check the parts online and compare between a std and a Tourer Valk model for those bolts.

Aren't the fender support brackets different on a Standard vs Tourer/Interstate?

(Nevermind. I just went and looked and the I/S are different, but only because the have the trunk mount tabs....D'OH!!!!!)

Marc, glad you finally found a set.  Very easy install.  Have all your hardware hand before install.  Then it's a 45 minute job max.  Then we all need to see pictures!

There are 2 different bolt diameters involved and I believe 2 different lengths of bolts. The spacers are 2 different thickness's AND I'm working from memory here.   None of my measurements will help you as I have since installed a trailer hitch. And everything I have mentioned pertains to an I/S. gordonv has an excellent solution if there are any Valkyrie owners close by-close can be next door or 750 miles or more depending on the owner.   RIDE SAFE.

That was one reason I mentioned std/Tourer.

But you said you have the trailer hitch, so now you need the ones for the IS instead.

Oh, one other note. It's been mentioned many times before. Remove only one bolt at a time, or the fender moves, and it takes a long time to get it aligned again. Which ever one is easier, like the forward one first, then you can get that bolt started, remove the second one, and tilt the hardware and replace the bolt.

Another issue. I had my fender off a few times. I could have sworn I had added anti seize. When I mounted my IS trunk onto my ACE Tourer, I had a bolt get tighter while removing it, and not thinking, I continued backing it out, and it broke.

Ended up having to drill/tap it out to an SAE bolt, as that was all we had on hand.
