I had a VERY busy/productive weekend...this is just one of the things we worked on...

This project was a 100 bucks worth of lumber...and a 1000 bucks worth of tools.

That's my friend Mike on the scaffold...couldn't have done it without him...

Good write up on the project.  As for the hornets, I can relate. Recently found several hundred yellow jackets "wintering" inside some awning support poles.  Most will never wake up and just dropped dead on the ground. A few survived the battle.
