There's a pin that holds the kickstand spring, (it's hard to explain I guess) but several times this pin has broken and the kickstand falls and the spring is nowhere to be found. After several pin breakages, I got smart and bought several extra pins and springs. I was just curious, after reading several month's of post's here, I never seen anyone with this problem, am I the only one?

2 Valks over 9 years and I have never had this problem. I do carry extra kickstand parts with me though.

06 BOLT, SPECIAL (6MM)
90111-MZ8-000  001 $5.24

Mine is a bolt with a shoulder. My (valks) side-stand spring went limp at a gas station. The bolt was bent but the spring held on until I made it home. The small shop in my town didn't have one so I bought a bolt (same thread and length) at an industrial supply.
What I figure happened was I bumped the pin/bolt with the bike lift when I rolled it under the bike. I cut a short piece of 2x4 and slide it against the stand before I push the lift under the bike and it stops the lift at the correct distance without bending or breaking anything.

Some break without notice.  Some break due to lift arm pressing against the spring.  The broken bolt and often time loss of spring has happened to many of us over the years.  Not an uncommon occurrence.    Roll Eyes

I've broken several...and replaced more on other's machines. Common problem...it's the lowest hanging thing on the underside...and can get hit by lots of stuff...may not break off right away...could happen much later.

I broke the bolt several years ago while offroading. Bottomed out in a BIG ditch. One map showed a paved  road there, the other didn't.
There was a road but it was dirt. Made it into Coalinga at 8:00 pm then still had a 2 1/2 hr ride home. That was an 8 hour ride that should have taken 4.  I used a bungee cord to hold the kickstand up. Bought a grade 8 bolt and some nuts to replace the stock bolt till the replacement bolt arrived. The replaceement bolt is still in the sidebag. This was before I went darkside, I would never try that with a car tire.

Happened to me. At a gas station 30 miles from home. Took 2 weeks for the local shop to order the right part Cry Cry. I had the kick stand
tied up during this time. I plan on getting extras to have on hand.

Ill tell you why they break and how to fix it..........

First metal breaks when it fatigues.  The fatigue happens when you bend a piece of metal back and forth over and over.  You have seen that before.  This pin bolts into the kickstand mount and goes through a hole in a metal retainer piece. that hole is big enough to allow the pin to be stressed and move back and forth.

Fatigue

So I made a new one with a high quality bolt from ACE and some nuts and spacers....then ground the barrel part down until it was a TIGHT fit in that hole.....no room to flex, hopefully no more fatigue

I`m sorry guys "but". What happens when your down the country road 70 miles and stop to take a wizz, get a drink, gas, what ever, and your side stand has done what it does, as stated, and you are alone and @ 165 lbs with short legs, what do you do to keep from laying the bike down ??? How do you get back to "HOME" to fix. All advise is welcome, along with the S.A. ones,.  Cheesy Grin Roll Eyes Undecided Do you tie up with a bunge, rope, or what ???? TIA.
