So, I have this bright idea and longing to build my own bike from the ground up...

The most costly parts of this as far as $$$ goes are: the frame, the engine, and the tranny. I have an excellent template to work from considering that I have those things...

...So, for the phat lady whose engine is out sitting on a jack: I'll be stripping her down to bare frame and starting over completely custom. Granted, this will take me a while and be 'ratchet-throwing' but I think I've just acquired a new hobby for the next 12 months or so.

I'm throwing some ideas around such as:

Extending the forks (and driveshaft)...the only issue I see with this is supporting the driveshaft with the extra (no more than) 12" length, what are your thoughts?

Installing air ride suspension in the rear allowing a drop the rear significantly during show...this leaves me with the question of what to do with the bow, change the angle perhaps? more (chopper) or less (bobber)? I also need to consider that the oil pan may be very close to the ground after install is complete. If I use a frame jig, I'm wondering how I can make it work if I wanted to give the engine a little more clearance from beneath.

I will be installing a supercharger which is specifically designed for the Valkyrie (will I need to do anything else to the engine if installing a supercharger?) - Already coming to terms if, when/if modifying the heigth of the engine inside the frame, modifying the two parallel horizonts encapsulating what is now the airbox in order to accomodate the supercharger. That works because I will be designing a different fuel tank for the dragon, something not yet seen.

I will be doing away with the coil packs in prep for switching to a distributor as I've seen before.

Considering moving to fuel injection somehow. May purchase a goldwing wiring harness (or new valk wiring harness)...have to shop the options, or if someone here knows about this, that'd be pretty awesome.  Grin

Before doing any of the above, considering sand blasting the frame and having it repainted a different color. I'm not sure what color because I haven't chosen a scheme for the entire work-up. Any ideas? Anything that was made known in your dreams/nightmares that you would want to see lol?  Evil

I've been dreaming of nearly the same thing for a couple of years, only difference
is I'd want to use a 3.8 litre buick engine, or a flat 6 subaru engine.

Hope you get some interesting replies.

So you're thinking of a foot longer bike?! That'd be cool!

I agree on the subi engine - same engine pretty much as valkyrie but will put out much more power

Ask to see Big Mikes latest supercharge Valkyrie.

Not a "chopper" but a serious machine that will scare the $hit out of you.

Dogg has a supercharged "chopper like" Valkyrie also.

I think an old ford flathead V8 would make bad chopper/bobber although they weigh more than a sm. block chevy.

I think csj is on to something with the flat six 3.8 from suburu. I've once upon a time thought about that myself...let's see what the junkyard can come up with??

That is pretty sick and dont see why, if long enough, it couldn't be done on two wheels......BUT looks like a V6 doesn't it?

Yep, looks like a v-6 if looking only at the manifold.  Those flat heads have the middle exhaust ports siamesed together so both middle cylinders breathe into one tube of the manifold.

That trike is an eight cyl., 4 plug wires on one side.

The trouble with a car engine in a bike is;

1) Getting the power diverted 90*, and to the rear wheel. Not too easy.
It would need a set of bevel gears, or a jack shaft, and a highly modded swingarm.

2) Insurance company. Try telling your Ins. comp. that you're gonna put a big car engine
in your bike frame. I tried this, told me my rates would either be 10 times higher,
or just could not get ins., period.

That said, check out this Brit guys' little monster; can you believe he uses a chain!

And there's the nice thing about supercharging a Valk, everything is pretty much hidden.

I have seen a guy with an 1100 Blackbird, all exhaust through a turbo, the whole
thing hidden inside the front cowling. He says that he can hit the gas in 2nd and it'll
flip right over, so he's real careful.

Well I have given this some thought.  Some of you may remember Mickey Thompson's multi engine race cars.  Well how about a Flat 12 Valkyrie.  Extended the frame, fabricate a gimler pulley on the output of the front engine that connects to a gimler pulley on the crank of the rear engine.  Sounds like a fun project.

So you're talking using two engines and "splicing them" per se?

Now you made me remember EJ Potter the Michigan Madman. Sideways V-8 used to run at Milan and Detroit drag strips.

Believe I saw a video of Jay Leno (an owner of the Jet Bike) saying that
if a vehicle gets too close behind at a stop light, that the exhaust
will melt the bumpers of that car.

I'd like to see a valk with the 4.3 chevy V6..made into a BOSS Colt?

A friend of mine is an engineer at Bosch Automotive, and he currently has a 4.3 liter V6 Diesel in a specially constructed "1995 Boss Hoss" frame. It is painted "Plum Crazy", and comes with many extras (Fiberglass side panels, turbo, and the original builders manual. Only 2600 miles, and not for the faint of heart.

Asking $9500.00

+2 on the subie idea. The turbo 2.5 4 bangers make 300 horsepower easily- or 200 n/a. If you didnt stretch it out too much it could still handle like valk.... and be reliable.

Been here done this, Powder coat the frame. Lots of options as far as colors go.  Its got to be an extension of your vision. Do that and "YOU" will love it.

I'm brainstorming on how to change to off-centered output drive if installing this engine from a car...maybe I'll have to have an engineer create a custom rear case/output gearing assembly
