After a ride   Ill run a finger over the wheel rims and my finger is black ,  I guess with rode grime and brake residue.

I know you shouldn't (or want to )  let that build up to much if at all .

I don't want to hose them off with water as water is a corrosive .

What do you do to  regularly clean and maintain   the aluminum wheels on you Valkyrie?

thanks in advance... w

Spray just a bit of Pro Honda Spray Cleaner and Polish on a rag and clean the wheels...done.

Get some 2000 up std. wheels..polished already, and just rinse them off with plain water. I use a coffee can (plastic) with plain water to clean my bike. I even had some nice comments about my nice shiny wheels at Inzane last year.

Wet/dry sandpaper from the otter parts store... I usually clean
it up like this when I put on a new tire...

Thanks for saying it looks nice, it would merely look kind-of-clean
next to one of those highly polished wheels...

Since I buffed out my wheels, all I use is a wet rag to wipe them down and then dry them. Once a year, I go back and use some Mothers mag and aluminum polish to keep them shiny.

Mine were rough when I got it.  Used wetordry sandpaper with WD40.  then finished with a buffing wheel using 2 different compounds (for paint finishes).  Final compound is the wax/compound.  Use that ocaisionally with a lint free rag to top them off again.  Just wash and wipe down regularly with "Hawg Wash" (or "Oz Wash", same thing.  Good stuff BTW).  Leaves a light wax finish that protects the finish.  Seems to be holding up.

When cleaning my wheels between hard polishing/buffing, I use hot soapy water and hose on mist.

Then I use corrosive mag wheel cleaner (or S100 spray) with stiff brushes (bottle brush, to get the calipers), rinse, then more hot soapy water to get all the wheel cleaner all off.  Then dry.

If they need it, then I use Bomsaway metal polish (whcih has wax in it).

They say if you lightly wax them once clean and shiny, they stay that way longer.

It actually builds up to a very good protective coating!

Are ALL 2001 and up wheels the polished wheels?  I thought the polished wheels just came on the Deluxe models.

+1 on that one Jess, my 01 I/S had no polished wheels. My '99 does though.

Is there a definitive answer on which models and/or years that did come with the polished wheels?

My 01 IS does not have polished wheels but soon will have either polished or chromed or black chrome powder coat.
