Really happy with this bulb from Cyclops Adventure Sports ( http://www.cyclopsadventuresports.com/3000-Lumen-H4-H6-LED-Headlight-bulb-_p_83.html ). I replaced my in-place PIAA Xtreme bulb and the lighting difference is dramatic with a significantly less wattage draw. The install was very straight forward, somewhat MacGyvered in that the bulb retainer and rubber boot was replaced with several zip ties. Highly recommended! The only 'downside' is that it will not work with headlight modulators, at least the device manufactured by signaldynamics doesn't work. First LED bulb I've seen that didn't cost your arm and leg.
Are you saying that the original 'pronged' bulb retainer must be removed? Seems that way, looks like wired-in bullet connectors only.
Other LED bulbs I've seen needed some kinda fan to keep 'em cool. Nothing of that sort required here?
60 bucks for one bulb? Not so bad if it lasts at least 5 years.

The LED has a protruding fan thereby preventing the use of the OEM bulb retainer ('prong') and rubber boot. Had to secure the LED via linked zip-ties.

How do you like the projected light pattern? In particular, is there a nice sharp upper cutoff for the low beam pattern? Pictures of the light pattern on a building would be helpful if you have the time sometime.

Quite a difference here, the Cyclops is 3000 Lumen [for $60], the Cree is 1000 Lumen (is it?)[for $20].
The price to lumens ratio seems correct.
There oughta be a big difference in projected light.
OK, the Cyclops uses 30 watts on high, the Cree is 80 watts?, huh?
I am reading something wrong.

Holy Sheep crap! I went for this one, and man does it ever light up the road. Just took it out to try it in the dark, this thing is scary bright but apparently not annoyingly so; I didn't get flashed by any oncomers. Signs shine back at you like fiery meteors. The reflector on this bulb fits right inside your OEM one, no need to remove either one. No, you can't use the original rubber waterproof ring that goes around your current H4 halogen as this is longer and fatter to allow for the cooling fins. I like it!

Got myself one as well and installed it this week. Had to play around with the locking clip a little bit for a snug fit, but otherwise a painless install. My HID was brighter but I think I prefer this LED bulb over the HID.

I'm thinking of getting an H I D kit for my 98 Tourer...is it easy to install and do you have to get one made for the bike? Could I get one made for a car and use it on the Valk? My son had bought a kit for his Ram truck but it also needed some kind of kit to go with it because of the way the ground changes from high to low beam. Both of my bikes use the same H4 bulb (VStar 1100)so being the cheapskate that I am I want to buy a kit for a car that has two units so I can put one in each bike. I know you guys are smart about this stuff, I haven't got a clue so before I spend $40-50 bucks for a car kit I'd like to know if it will work...

I believe the HIDs put out more lumens than the LEDs, but at a cost in wattage. The LED bulb uses just 20 watts, and is plenty bright. It also has a claimed 30,000 hour usable life.

Here's an update...it's really bright, but the beam is not focused. I see quite a bit of scattering effect with both high and low beams. Anyone else see this with the OEM headlight bucket?

The classic problem with retrofitting a xenon HID bulb or an LED bulb into a reflector designed for a filament bulb is that there is a precise focus point designed into the reflector that matches the bulb filament location of the H4 bulb. Neither the LED or HID lamps can put all their light in this exact same spot. The result is stray light bouncing around in the headlight reflector that sprays out in random directions. Lens's, reflectors and light sources is a very precise science that don't mix and match easily.

Got my LED bulb in the mail today - I MAY have time to install it tomorrow, if not - it can wait until we return from vacation on Jun28
Couple hours later - headlight bulb is in, but I lost one of the screws for the headlight mount. It does seem brighter than stock, but that will have to wait .

So if you can't use the rubber piece, what do you do? Just leave it off?
