My brother in law is looking at a Valkyrie with the motor bored to 1625 . Has racing cams and valves. I told him I didn't know enough about the build or bike to comment. He said it ran like hell and pulled the front wheel at will. With the parts getting a little harder to find and other factors, we would like feedback from the 4m. If anyone has actually done this and can add a comment it would be very helpful in his decision making. So comment yea or nay and your reason please. The guy has every receipt from the build and dates and milage. Bike has 39500 on odometer and 6900 on build.

Without knowing everything, it could be like buying someone else's problems. Also the boring job does destroy the lining material honda uses to line the piston sleeves. It also would require special tuning, maybe plugs. But overall too risky.I guess it isn't like building a V-Twin. It would be fun as a second bike though. The guy claimed It did the quarter in the high 11's and would do mid to low 11's if it had a Pingel air or an electric operated shifter.

Sounds like build it and use it hard and sell it to some sucker before it breaks.

None of the big bore motors I have done or seen are as trouble free as the stocker,, and "hot rod" motors,      just think about it

My 97 Bobber now has 3rd overbore pistons and rings.

Rebuilt carbs with #38 low speed jets, ported intakes, custom modified exhaust, K&N air filter, I/S carb springs and I just got an I/S ICM.

Still a work in progress.

Should run pretty good now.

I believe I would stay away from it. Because you don't know what you are getting yourself into. The cylinders are coated with a special coating looks like to me they just bore through the coating. Next you don't know what the jetting is and you don't have any fuel air ratio readings for the jetting. I believe I would past. Unless he is just going to race it and he is a good wrench and knows what he is doing. Other wise  I think you are buying someone else problems that could be never ending.  To which I agree.

Never heard nor have I seen the "lining material Honda uses to line the piston sleeves".
BMW use a Nikosil process and Yamaha Roadstars and Stratoliners use a ceramic coating, Honda does not.
