The stock horn on my 1998 Valkyrie Standard stop working, much to my surprise.  Had a woman coming around the corner on my side of the road, hit the horn button and nothing happened.  Luckly  there was enough room for me to squeeze by.

So now I am looking into replacing the stock horn with a Stebel Nautilus.
I see that a relay is required.  Can someone tell me how the stock horns wires come into play with the relay.  I guess what I am looking for is how to wire the Stebel Nautilus on the Valkyrie.

Thanks for any and all help.

Use the "hot" lead from the existing horn (the one that gets power when you hit the horn button) to trigger the relay for the new horns.  You may have to extend the length, but that's easily done with a length of wire and some crimp-on connectors.

I simply unplugged the stock horn and plugged them onto the Steibel.  IF you reverse the order, the air pump just spins backwards.  Reverse the wires back  and blast the neighbors!

The Stebel horn draws 18 amps. That requires #12 wire and the factory horn wires are # 18 I believe. As RP said: extend the factory horn wires back to the seat with 2 male flat connectors. Attach those 2 wires to the relay terminals on the relay. Run a #12 wire from the pos battery lead (20 amp inline fuse) to the contact connections of the relay and then the other contact terminal goes to the pos horn connection. Neg horn wire goes to any good ground.

NOT using a relay is a good way to burn out your horn switch

Thanks for the advice.  It's been working well for 4 years...I did upgrade the wiring because I needed to relocate the horn, but I didn't install a relay.
