My "new to me" Valk is blowing the right front turn signal bulb. The first day I rode it, the bulb burned out after several hours of riding..."No big deal," I thought.....Wheeled into an auto parts store, bought a 2 pack, replaced the bulb...signal worked again, put the spare in the bag, and all was good again.
Then, today, it blew again. So I replaced it, hoping that maybe it was just a coincidence.....NOT! Blew again after just a few uses.
Any ideas? I ran a search on this, but came up empty.
Thanks for any help!

Is there any other wiring attached to your turn signals? Highway lights on the running circuit, extra turn lights? Check all the added wires.

No additional turn signals, but there are highway lights...the turn signals hang down/are attached to the highway lights. It may be my imagination, but the right turn signal(the one that keeps blowing) seems to be a tad brighter than the left.

Check the rating of the bulb your using against the rating in the Valk service manual. You might have the wrong one in there.
The service manual says the following:
1. For GL1500C/GL1500CT, use 12-V 32/3 cp X 2
2. For GL1500CF, use 12-V 35/2.8 cp X 2.
I have a 1999 Interstate (GL1500CF) and I never found a bulb with the above rating, but I use a 12V - 21/5W bulb for the frunt turn signal/ running light (Honda Part 34906-447-711). In over 10 years and over 88,000 miles, I just replaced the left one. I replaced the right one last year.
I hope this helps. Ride Safe.

Be sure to check any wiring that was modified to mount the highway lights. My guess is you have a poor insulator that is vibrating and occassionally touches ground.

Everything looks dry in the bulb socket. I'll check the bulb ratings and wiring.
Kind of a bummer....I wanted to ride a while before I worked on it. But, might as well get my feet wet...lol...
Thanks for the tips!

I wonder if something is "grounding" thru it. I have seen weird things on trailers and older cars where a shorted wire would cause the nearest path to ground to be thru a bulb. Its hard on them if they are carrying more load than the wattage they are rated for... kinda like a fuse in a circuit in this case..
Just my 2 cents worth..

Do any of the other lights change in brightness or intensity when you use the right side turn signal??? Does it look like they blink in synchronisation with the turn signal???

OK....I think I found the problem. There were "1154" bulbs in the front turn signal / running lights. Those are 6 volt bulbs! So, I just replaced them both with 12 volt bulbs. I still need to check the rear ones. Thanks very much for all the help and tips! I guess this is just part of buying a used bike. I'm going to check everything I can think of on this bike before my road trip in September.

Is this a good replacement for BOTH front AND rear? Isn't this also the same bulb for the tail/brake light?

brake/running light on a standard or tourer. Running is the same candlepower as the 1157. I don't think it can be used on the turnsignals. Could be wrong.

I use it on the turn signals with the Kury bezels, and it's noticeably brighter, as caught here with my 4-way flashers, as only my left one has the bulb and bezel installed for the PIC. The single filament version for the rear is 3497, and the difference is just as dramatic
