The OEM shocks on my '97 Tourer seem harsh, for lack of a better word. I'm only 175lbs and I've tried various settings from light to medium. I ride one up. It just seems like there isn't a setting that gives me a really comfortable ride. Bumps are bumpy. Going up the curb in my driveway is not smooth. I've owned and ridden lots of Valkyries. I currently have 2, the tourer and an interstate. My interstate is set to medium (also OEM shocks) and I've never seen the need to upgrade to aftermarkets because she rides so smooth.
SO....
Do I just need new shocks for the tourer?
Any suggestions as to what shocks I should go with?
On length, I heard you could go with shorter ones to lower the bike a little, is that true?
What is stock length of OEM shocks?
Thanks all.

If you lower the rear with shorter shocks, it has a negative effect on handling. The steering rake is lengthened which discourages the bike from turning in on a corner. If you need a lower bike for a shorter leg, go for it. I wouldn't do it for looks.

I'm pretty sure I'd get Works Performance shocks, if it were me...

Progressive 440s aren't made any more. People use 444s now...

13 inch...

I took off the original oem 13" shocks and replaced them with a set of Progressive's 11.5" shocks.

I have experience zero change in the bike's handling.

Ditto....have the 11.5" shocks as well and never noticed a change. Go for it
