06 VTX 1300 fluid change questions

Buddy bought a bike that was already 'serviced'. Well it wasnt, so he is doing it all now prior to prime riding season. How do you do the coolant change? Obv its different from the valks as no radiator cap, etc.
Also seems to be very cold blooded as its needing a choke alot of the time. Any thing to check? Seem to start better once the plugs were changed. Gonna run a few tanks of a carb cleaner thru it.
17k on the odo.

Coolant change should be the same as any water cooled bike. Radiator cap should be under the gas tank. You'll need to move the gas tank back to get access to the radiator cap.

So there is a rad cap under the tank? There is one under the left side cover that we 'think' goes to the reservoir tank.

Yes, there is one underneath the tank. The tank needs to be removed or pulled back and lifted enough to gain clearance to the radiator cap.

Having a shop manual is always a good idea; also there are MANY bike-specific websites with lots of good info.

Yep.... Res tank under side cover. Rad cap under tank on right side I believe. A 2x4 scrap should do the trick to hold the tank up while servicing the fluids. Make sure to clean the cap off inside and to blip the throttle to get air bubbles up and out.
