I have a 1998 Valkyrie Tourer (pics soon)  .

What do you riders use to clean and put on a coat of wax  for  protection and UV light / sunlight protection  on your Valkyrie to protect  and keep  your Valkyrie lookin like new?

Thanks in advance   ,  mike

I use Honda Spray cleaner. I polish her about once a year. I use nufinish polish. You can pick up the spray cleaner at your local Honda dealer and the polish at any auto parts store.

I use Lemon Pledge everywhere on all my bikes. Very happy with the results, and it is quick and easy. Works great on windshields and visors as well.

I use Meguiars Gold Class, gives a nice shine, and rubs off nice and easy. Made the mistake of using Turtle wax once, 4 hours of polishing later the tin of wax was in the garbage and I ended up stripping the wax off and putting Meguiars on instead.

I have used about every type of wax (cleaner or pure carnuba) and glaze available.

Most of it is good, some lasts longer than others.

Bar none, the best stuff I ever used was this.

I think the key is to keep it clean and waxed, regardless of brand.  Usually UV issues result when there has been no cleaning or wax applied.  Check out a local junk yard and see how long it takes to get that flat faded look.   And I can't recall many bikes getting that look unless total ignored.

I use Honda Spray Polish, Pledge occasionally,  but mostly Eagle One Nano Wax.  Maybe once a year I treat it with Collinite insulator wax... But that's more work than the spray and wipe Eagle One Nano wax.

Someone here on the board got me using Rejex on all my bikes and cars. Easy to apply, very little dust and residue to remove during application and the stuff is super glossy, slick and lasts a long time. It might be too glossy for some tastes but not me.

I just had my car detailed and furnished the detailer with REJEX.  I've been using it for years and it protects for quite awhile. It's a polymer and needs to cure for 12 hours inside a garage but it's worth it.
It's not a cleaner but a deep shine protective polymer, not a wax. I used it last July on my Mazda and the water still beads up.

Hot Glue (Mark) tried it after I posted a couple of years ago and I think that he's still using it.  It was originally made for use on airplanes.

I also REJEX it on the windshields of the Strom and the Mazda.  It beads the water and works similiar to Rainex but it's ok to use on hard plastic.

Yeah, I realize that talking about waxes, etc is like talking about oil, tires, and darkside so I'll stop. Grin

I've used a few different products and used to exclusively use NuFinish (orange bottle).  While this got the job done and protected the paint for a while, it didn't make for that nice, glossy finish.
Recently, I switched to a Mothers/Turtle Rubbing/Polishing agent (don't use "wax on, wax off" swirls but rather 6-8" sections of straight motions or you'll see the swirls later).  Work the rubbing/polishing agent in really well, as this will get all the dirt and debris off that washing didn't.
After this, I'll use a pure carnuba-based wax (Mother's California Grade) and polish this off to a high shine.  You'll have to do it more often than the "once a year" NuFinish, but it looks great.

Also, for chrome/aluminum, I've found that a #0000 grade steel wool used with a conservative bit of metal polish (LIGHTLY) not only cleans up any kind of discoloration on any aluminum (transmission, switch housings, forks, etc.) but makes your chrome really POP!  Rub it in until the color goes from a white to black/gray-ish, then buff it out to a high shine.  If you feel really energetic (or it's raining outside), hit your chrome again with Mother's chrome polish and buff again.  Sorority girls will use your bike as a mirror and on sunny days commuters will require a welding helmet to look directly upon the sun-like dragon!

Thanks

Collinite Insulator Wax (#845) for chromed surfaces.

Meguiar's #26 paste for the painted ones - especially on black bikes.

50/50 mix of Mother's Carnauba Wax and Collinite Metal Wax for the wheels.

Yes Paxton..that is the "stuff"...I love it.I use it on chrome , windshield , painted , aluminum. If you want something great for aluminum ( Wheels) try California Custom , it's a 2 step system and is everything it says it is. After I used it on my rims , everyone was asking if I had gotten new rims , it made that much difference. There was a few posts on here about it.

I'm not sure if qualifies but I've been using Blue Coral was w/ wax for many years and love the way my bike and cars look when done. I don't know how it works soap and wax together, but it's a real good product and not expensive.

For waxing alone I use Meguriers Gold Class w carnauba wax. I wax once in spring and once toward the end of summer before the bike goes to bed for the winter.

I have been using Star brite Premium Marine Polish. It can be on all of the bikes surfaces and makes it super slick. Nothing seams to stick to it so cleaning the bike is a breeze.

My experience, it doesn't matter. All known brands should be fine.
I agree on Lemon Pledge. Only thing I use to clean windshield and de-bug front end. Also use to spot clean rest of bike.

avoid any wax/polish that has petroleum distillates in it. PDs are bad for rubber, valve stems, plastics and chromed plastics. doesn't destroy them at once but over time. just search about it.

http://wingstuff.com/products/19969-original-spray-cleaner-polish

Original is the company that makes the honda spray, usually it is cheaper than the honda labeled can.

Bringing this back from the dead...

Glad I found this thread.  Probably look at trying some of the  choices on the 99 Std.

Would also like to know what I should use to try and remove a paint scuff on the front fender (see picture).

Is there any hope for it?

Is that scratch through the clear coat and into the paint?

Or is it into the primer underneath the paint?

I use Meguires scratch x to remove scratches, it will cover small scratches down to the primer and hide larger ones.  Works awesome to remove swirl marks also.

I think it is on the clear coat only.  Have not been able to look closely with a magnifying glass, but the affected area feels just as smooth as the rest of the fender...no changes in surface height.  Of course, the PO may have tried some form of surface prep before I bought it.

I use a product called Turtle Wax Ice.  You can put it on anything, rubber, paint, glass, chrome.  Nice think about it, is it does not dry to a haze so it does not collect in tight areas.  I have been using it on my cars as well.  Trick is to buff with a micro fiber cloth after it drys for a while.

I bought some  and it seems to be  pretty good stuff.  I am just  starting to experiment with it, I give it a 4 star rating. I won't be using it solely like they suggest, I'm keeping the Mequires and Mothers products too..

Some people like it, others don't.  I use Zymol. Have to be kinda quick with it and apply in a small area then move on.
