I'm installing the cruise control that Troystg pulled of of his bike, and I'm wondering if anyone has used an alternate location for the vacuum actuator to the one specified by MC Cruise, which is behind the centre cover, in front of the battery. I already have an electrical panel in that location, and I'd rather not have to move it.

I've seen several mounted in the fairing of Interstates. I would think anywhere the cable would reach. There were several write-ups with pictures on the tech board. It has been several years since posted, so you may have to look a little cooldude

There's plenty of room under the carburetors if you desmog the bike.

Well that might happen eventually, but I didn't plan for that.  Right now I need to get this cruise installed in the next two evenings.  I need the bike up and running two days from now, and I won't have time to tear it apart again before leaving for Inzane next week.  I might move a fuse block from behind the battery to behind the right side panel, then put the actuator behind the battery.  It would be really nice if it fit behind the right side cover where I used to have my air horn compressor, but I'm pretty sure I won't have enough room.

I have the McCruise on two Valks.  I think it would stretch the cable from the actuator pretty tight trying to mount it behind the battery.  If there is too much tension on the cable I don't think the actuator will work correctly.
Your best bet is to mount it where it is supposed to go and move your fuse block.

I don't know anything about the MC Cruise actuator but I'm familiar with the Audiovox and it's close to watertight, or could be sealed up to be so, and might fit in a void underneath the bike near the kickstand. If there was room for it then it might not be too bad to make an extension for the carburetor control cable. Two days might be cutting it close for such a custom fit-up though.
