But nothing works. Just purchased a used Ultimate BB seat. I cannot get the back rest out of the seat. Seems to be stuck of locked in somehow. My mustang does lift right out. Isn't this supposed to as well? If so, any tips to try to lift it.? It does move around a little bit sideways but will not budge vertically. Thanks, Mike

I've got the same seat and at the base in back are two button head cap screws. Take them out and the back rest will come off. The chrome tab that is left appears to be mounted to the seat pan underneath with the same type screws. It is mounted to to topside of the pan, under the padding, so good luck if you want that part out.

I have an older Ultimate BB seat but on mine. there is a screw underneath. Take the seat off, flip it over and look at the rear of the seat. Up inside the padding, there might be a sctrew that puts pressure on the rectangular post that the backrest is attached to. Again, my seat is older and leather, they might be doing it different now.

CSJ that is what I want out. There's even a flap with Velcro to cover the empty hole when it's out.
Gurf, yeah I did look underneath. There is a warning label that says not to loosen or remove this screw although no screw is visible. Guess I'll try anyway. Makes no sense to have that tab to cover the hole if the bar isn't removable

This is the reply I got from Des at Ultimate per the problem of removing the back rest bracket.
Do not attempt to take out any screws or other hardware. The driver backrest receiving bracket inside the seat has a spring loaded ball plunger that clicks into a groove in the backrest post when you slide it in.
To remove, thump the top of the backrest pad down with your hand as far as it will go and then with both hands pull it straight up and out.
If it hasn't been removed for a while it needs some lube, get some WD40 and squirt a small amount down the back of the chrome post into the receiving bracket in the seat so it runs into the ball plunger and then give the backrest a wiggle side to side so the WD40 gets into the ball then pull it out.
Before you put it back in put a small dab of oil or grease in the post groove so it will lubricate the plunger.
I beat on it a few times and pulled but nothing happened until I sprayed some WD40 down the opening. After a few minutes I thumped it again, pulled and it finally came out. There was some rust so that was the problem. Cleaned it up and sprayed a little silicon lube down into the opening and on the post itself. Works great now. Those that could not get there Ulitimate back rest out there is a way.

Had the same problem with my new Bigboy. I use a Mustang backrest because if fits the Bigboy seat and fits my back better than the Ultimate Bigboy backrest (it sits down flush on the back of the seat, unlike the Ultimate). Little wiggling, little lube, little banging, little yanking and it's all good.  Hated spending $175 for a backrest I will probably not use, but did not want to ride home without one, and I always have a backup. |

Seems the backrest either pushes you forward on the seat where it's narrower or your leaning against it and the handle bars are now too far forward. YMMV. Found this to be true on the Big Boy and the Mustang. The Mustang fits me better so I mostly use that but still wish it was as comfortable as the Mustang seat on my Aero 750. |

No no, I do need/want a driver's backrest; it's just that the Mustang backrest fits me much better mounted on an Ultimate seat.
