Is an alternator from an Interstate different from a standard?

I think there is one of those doodads on an Interstate alternator
that makes you not hear the engine rpms in your radio, but that
they are interchangeable and otherwise functionally equivalent to
std/tourer alternators...

They are the same except that the Interstate has a capacitor to prevent any noise in the radio

Well, I get noise out of my radio, so I guess mine's not working.

The I/S does indeed have a greater wattage output.

Are they different part numbers?

Interesting.
I just looked them up.
They are different....
The IS model has a different rotor core part number than standard/tour models alternators...
All the other parts are the same inside.
