driving lights

I'm in the market for some driving  lights for my 98 Tourer it has what my buddy calls a bulldozer blade for a windshield I agree it is large so I don't think I can put a light bar on anywhere around the windshield so I'm thinking of mounting on crash bars. Has anyone done this or do you know of any method of adding driving lights? Low beam just isn't doing it at night when I have to switch over due to oncoming traffic.
Any advice part numbers and pictures are appreciated and thanks in advance.

WHATEVER YOU MOUNT, BE SURE & put them through a relay, have their own switch, and if they are 'ON' the starter won't engage, unless you did as I did,,,,,,

I found the wire to put mine out in the headlight shell.  they go out when ya  hit the bump stick right along with the headlight,,,,,,,,,

Another thing, they are adjusted to what my low beam is, but they are 50 watt & on all the time.   I run the high beam during the day in hopes of the old fart like me can see me.     Low beam looks like a flashlight with a filter on it....

Only time I run low beam in daylight is if I'm in a group ride,

JR, you lost me when you said it won't start when lights on. I just bought some lights and plan on installing them this week. I was going to wire them up running a wire from the battery thru a fuse to a relay then to the lights. I was going to run a wire from acc. wire to relay ( I think it's switched on with the key) to power it up. was going to switch the ground with a toggle switch to turn off lights if wanted. It sounds like I need to run a wire from the headlight to the relay to power it up instead ? Did you just tap into the wire going to the headlight ?

Which windshield do you have?  If you have the stock honda tourer windshield, you can add a light bar no problem.  I put this light bar on mine, the windshield comes and goes all the time with no issues at all.  Got it here.....

I also have PIAA driving lights (black ones).  They are mounted to the radiator side covers.  The previous owner mounted them there.  I don't really like 'em mounted there and plan on relocating them to the crash bar later on.  Of course, I'll have to replace my chrome radiator covers with some new ones because these have holes drilled in them from the driving lights being mounted on them.

I just finished mounting moto lights on a light bar I got from bigbikethings. The bar is simple and gives you some different options. Moto lights also have a few different options including brake mounts or fork tube mounts. They sell a kit with the works including relay, wiring, switch, etc. I probably sound like a commercial for them but they have a very nice product. I started with them on a Ducati and kept the lights when I sold the bike. Then I just bought other mounting kits for other bikes. I was going to mount on the brake calipers but didn't want to run the wires down the brake lines so mounted them on a light bar. The lights do work great when mounted low like that though( on the calipers). Tonight will be the 1st tryout to see how they work. If you haven't checked out bigbikethings, they've got some neat stuff for the Valkyrie. You'll like any additional lighting on the bike----Jeff

Kuryakin sells mini spots which I mounted on my crash bars. 20W halogens and they're bright. Yes, they're through a relay and separately switched. Spots and P clamps are $130. They have a larger spot which is 30W and $10 more.

Thank you all for your input. This board rocks, I'm on many forums and you guys are the best you actually answer and help newbies like myself.
 To answer a question on my windshield to the best of my knowledge it is the stock/factory windshield. Now I have several choices to choose from  with all your help.

 I have a ? about the lightbar mount with the turn signals also on it are the driving lights wired seperatly or do they use the same wiring and go thru the main light switch? 

 Do you guys only use the added lights for night use or do you run them all the time?

IMO, go to walmart and for $13 u can get chrome optima lights that use MR16 bulbs that are 50w spots. If u want floods go to any hardware store and get 12volt, MR16 floods. Google MR16 bulbs, they come either in spot or flood styles with different wattages. (price has gone up slightly)

Recent issue of Motorcycle consumer news just tested auxilary lights and the top rated one that had the longest light projection they ever tested, the lights went for $160. The bulb used by these lights are MR16s. They even beat out a set of HIDs.

I installed Adjure Beacon 1's & 2's on my forks. They are quality through & thru.
I use the Beacon 1's (1 9/16") 20w amber for turns and the Beacon 2's (2 1/4") 50w flood for daytime running lights [20w or 35w would be good enough for daytime]. For night riding I would recommend 35w or 50w spots in place of floods, floods don't push enough light down the roadway.
These are halogen bulbs good for 5000 hrs. (claimed) and are replaceable from HomeDepot for $8.00/pr.

As mentioned, use a relay for driving lights.
I did not add a relay for the 20w turns. According to KingBee the flasher relay is ample and I've had no problems without an additional relay on the turns only.

BTW My selected mounts, body sizes and fork positions do not interfere with either pod or bar grill at full steering lock and clear the fender and shield at full fork compression.
