I've had an issue for some time during warmup and low speed where the engine just wants a little more enrichment. No problem, let her warm up with the fuel enrichment on (some refer to as "choke") and after a bit she behaves OK. Still, at idle it varies about a hundred RPM (idle set at 900 per OEM spec) up and down. I have been all through the carbs, desmogged, etc but no luck....until yesterday. I received all new viton-B hoses for the fuel cutoff valves and new "O" rings for the downdrafts, and a complete "0" ring kit for the pilot screws. Installed all of them and viola! Problem solved!
This is on my '97 tourer. Every single one of the cutoff valve hoses was cracked on both ends. Of course, I can't say which of the 3 items fixed the problem, but in my experience, on bikes that come in to my shop that have never changed any of these, all should be replaced anyway.

What size hose did you get for the air cut valves . I'm guessing 3/32 .

That's probably a good guess. I can't say I really know. I replace all of my rubber components with Viton-B. I just asked Rich ad Redeyetech.com to sell me a complete set. He has very good products.

Thanks for your post.  Been meaning to replace the air cutoff valve hoses but have been concerned I might get one off and not get it back on without pulling the carbs.  I've had the same idle speed variance you described.  It helped alot, though not 100%.  I expect I need to re-sync the carbs now that the hoses are replaced.  I synced them with these hoses bad.  The bike is definately hitting evenly where before it was not.  I could hear one or two cylinders hitting a bit harder than the rest at speed, always bugged me.  Bike runs very evenly now.  Had already tightened intake hoses and replaced intake runner o-rings.

Just sayin thanks for the encouragement.  Probably going to do the pilot screw o-rings next, then Sync.

Appreciate it. One does have to be a little bit patient and have tools for surgery to do the change without removing anything (except the slide covers). It took me probably about an hour to get them all done working between the small spaces. The nice thing about getting the hoses from Rich is they are already cut to length, which helps a lot.

Thats great news. I have similar symptons with my bike, however the idle speed doesn't hunt up and down, just seems to stumble a bit until she's fully warm.

I went to the Redeye tech website but everything I click on says there are no items to look at.

Do you have a way I can get in touch with Redeye directly?

Thanks,

Mark

I went to redeye to re-order and found the same issue. I am thinking that he may be attending Inzane and has sort of "closed shop" until he gets back.

The site seems fine but everything is on hold. It won't let you select or purchase items. Somebody posted a while back that he was going to be shut down while he moved his Mom cross country.

Nogrey, can you tell me what these special surgical tools are? Maybe post a pic. I've got the hose just want to know what tools I'll need before I get started.
THANKS

hemostats with a 90 deg bend and a small pair of needle nose pliers are what I used.  Also alittle silicone spray in the hoses makes them slip on easy, and it goes away and they stay on tight.

Nogrey may have a better plan.

Nope, that is exactly the method I used. Right down to the silicone. Long hemostats really help. Take care not to lock them down too tight as it is easy to tear a hole in the tubing.
Sorry for the delay, I'm at the Elko MC rally.
