It's not an oil question... it's a filter question.   Grin 

Does the 1800 use the same oil filter as the 1500?? 

I have 3 (I think) laying around in my shop... are they useless to me now??

yes, honda made the OEM valkyrie filters which are used on many honda bikes shorter in length to fit past the GL1800 fairing. The org one will fit past the fairing with very minor coaxing. did it on the GW when they first came out.
threads and pressure ratings are the same for the 1800. thermostat is different as a side point.

                     yes I had a vtx1300c and agl1500c now a2014 valkyrie and they all use the same oil filter
