We have always had cable available until now.
I have a 50" LCD TV that is in fine condition, except it does not have a digital tuner.
We have been in the house for three months and Joann is pushing me to hook up something for local channels.
I figured no big deal I'll get an external digital tuner and an antenna and we should be good to go.
Well... They don't make digital tuners anymore?
I've spent some time looking for one and I can't find anything reasonable.
They do still make some DVD players with a tuner in it, but very few.
I really didn't want to go Digital to analog, it kinda defeats the purpose of having a nice TV.
Any thoughts?

Hmmmmm,  I stopped the madness with cable and satellite and am on an antenna in my attic with a few digital tuners (for the analog TV's) and the Digital LCD TV's work great as well.   Can you say FREE HD channels, better than cable?....cable has compression and the quality is not as good as off my antenna IMO.  I only watch the main 3 or 4 (ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX) but get others as well.    You should find that digital tuners are available, and there still might be the $40.00 coupons available to help get one. Check out www.dtv.gov for more details.   I use those Digital Tuners with the analog TV's and they work great, the picture quality is still much better than cable ever was.  I also have a DVD/VCR with a Digital Tuner built in.... Magnavox that I got at Wal-Mart and it works great as well.   Good Luck.

Should be able to get the Tuner/Converter at any RadioShack and if you go to dtv.gov and get the coupons they should cost about $19 each. Each coupons are $40 off.

I am also a non Comcast fan...anyway, I have one set of rabbit ears in the garage hooked to the splitter and I now have digital tv in everyone room that has a TV, two converter boxes and some of the best pictures I have seen in a long time...plus in my area I get an additional 15 channels for free...

I am not sure if the coupon hand out is still available...but the converter boxes are relatively cheap...(you will need one for every non digital tv, i tried getting away with just one, didn't work).

Good luck and as always, let us know how you make out...

If I understand what Jeff is asking, the digital converter boxes that you get a Radio shack/walmart etc are Digital to Analog converters.  Jeff is looking for a Digital Tuner, not Digital to Analog.

So, he's looking for a Digital Tuner with Antenna In, and HDMI out?

Yep,
I want a digital tuner, not a D/A converter.
