I will be converting my oem petcock to a manual one this week and also installing an AFC-111 fuel shutoff valve. Is it possible to install a LED that will indicate when the fuel valve is powered on and working properly? If so, can somebody please chime in and let me know how it can be done?

TIA.

This was covered in this thread, and in some others:

http://www.valkyrieforum.com/bbs/index.php/topic,63609.msg618798.html#msg618798

I wrote it up on my tech tips page:

http://www.horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Tech_Tips/Fuel_Shutoff/fuel_shutoff.html

In a nutshell, this design includes an LED to indicate when the solenoid is powered.  Also the default is, the solenoid is off until you hit a hidden pushbutton which activates a relay wired as a "latch" - that is, when activated, it holds it's "on" status until power is cut by the ignition, kill sw, or tipover function.  So it's anti-theft and anti-hijack.  Someone steals your bike by hijack, hit the kill sw and hand it to him.  Or if he gets your keys and rides it away.  Either way, in a mile he's outta gas.  Call 911 on your phone and tell the cops where they will find the thief on the side of the road.  Doesn't take you long to automatically hit the pushbutton after starting it.

Get the 12v aux power from the black/white wire at the kill button output, or the same color wire at the ECM, or at one of the coils.  No, that does not create a problem with ignition - mine has been wired this way for over a year - and same for several other riders.  One guy reported a problem but it appears that was caused by another issue.

Here's the schematic again, thx to BonS for diagraming my install, and also for the D1 improvement:

Not sure why Folks make this more complicated.......than it SHOULD be!!!

Manual petcocks have been on bikes since they were invented.  Just TURN IT OFF.........when you are done riding!!!

It is only until recently, where manufacturers have made it a MAJOR decision, on how to shut your bike down!!  Watch some of Jay Lenos's Vids on some of the old bikes He has.  You would be amazed at all the oilers and stuff, that needed to be turned off and on, before a ride.

WE ARE SPOILED!!!   LOL!!! cooldude

Not complicated for me.  I enjoy tinkering.  It's entertainment.  If my bike is ever stolen / hijacked - I'll get a kick out of outsmarting the perp.  And I don't have to turn anything off when done riding, except the key.  While activating the fuel when starting is automatic for me - switch on the key, hit the starter, hit the fuel button and go.  For sure I'm not going to have hydrolock.  If you haven't addressed that issue - you can't say that.

Auto parts stores carry LED lighted rocker switches but I had to add a relay to not blow the 5 amp accessory fuse when everything was on. I have since added an additional fuse block to help with any future electrical toys I might want. These switches are bright enough to be very distracting at night, so need to be mounted somewhere not in direct vision (i.e. not the instrument panel, don't ask how I know that).

It's done!!! OEM Petcock has been converted to a manual one and the AFC fuel-valve is now powered by a hidden switch. Rather than using a vacuum cap on the #6 inlet, I removed the barb and used a 6mm bolt to plug it.

What about when you want to balance your carbs?

Intake barb is my toolkit. Will take me less than a minute to switch the bolt out for the barb.
