I am seriously considering doing the Polk speaker upgrade on my IS soon.  It looks like the popular choice is the Polk DB501 front and rear (with small modifications to the speaker boxes).  Is this still the preferred speaker?  Also, I am looking for a small amp to run the speakers.  What are people using here?  The smaller in physical size...the better.  Let's hear your input please.

Crutchfield sells 4 very small amps that all have speaker level inputs and will fit neatly on the bike.

Alpine, Clarion, Kenwood and Soundstream.

All would be good matches with the Polk db501..

I replaced the oem speakers on my is with the polk 501 and I didn't hear that big of a difference to make it worth my time and money. just my opinion.

I purchased one of the Pyle amps,, different model, and was completely dissatisfied with the performance,, I sent it back for a refund.  Wattage and distortion specifications were way exaggerated,, just my experience,, did the amp work out for you DragLine?

Bought if off ebay, it is marine grade. They have 4 channel and 2 channel, I just used a 2 channel.

Neophyte here! How does one go about making all the connections needed to the amplifier? Particular if that amp is behind the fairing?

Take the outter shell off the fairing. There are 4 screws on each side for the speaker pods, remove them. Then 4 screws for the chrome trim under the windshield. And I think 2 bolts up on top of the fairing and 2 bolts on the bottom backside of the fairing. Pull the fairing off and unplug the wiring harness.
