Hello Ethel it's me again  Grin

I have a question for ALL you VALK HEADS  Cheesy

My Valk has been running just fine EXCEPT  Undecided  it will idle at 1000 rpms for weeks.  Then all of a sudden I will come to a stop and it will stumble with the idle at about 600-700 rpm's.  I will adjust it back to 1000 rpms and it will run fine for a couple days.  Then when I got home last night and pulled her into the Biker Barn and put her in neutral she was idleing at about 1200/1300 rpms, readjust back to 1000 RPM's,  rode to work and all is well... ???
This is a continious cycle of events ,  Will run great for weeks at a time but then,,,

Obvious question uglystupid2 Why is she doing that?

Thanks for your input and suggestions  cooldude

First off insure the throttle cables have plenty of slack.

Second, thoroughly slather a spray lubricant over all the throttle linkages

and lubricate the throttle cables and throttle sleeve.

This will insure there is no mechanical problem causing your dilemma.

Idle variations are often a sign of vacuum leaks...check the vacuum lines...particularly near the manifold ports...for splits/soft spots.

Daniel,
thanks I will check on that,  I had some loose clamps that needed re-tightening when I did my De- Smog  Will check it all again.
I did the de-smog and replaced with Vac caps.

Remove the vac cap fittings. Take one to ACE and get a short bolt with a brass washer. Replace with these. Carry the vac cap fittings in your battery box for future carb balancing.

Or get into your buddy's Gold Wing junk stash. IIRC, the GL1000/1100/1200 intake runner vacuum port block-off screws are of the same diameter and thread pitch as those fittings used on the Valkyrie intake runners.

I also thought fuel carb jet fouling.  How many miles are we taking here?

Run some carb cleaner through when idle drops down. If the bike doesn't stall, then I wouldn't change the idle speed.

My IS used to change speed too, but usually only for a short time. One or two lights.
