on my beautiful BLACK standard when a brand new beautiful BLACK Corvette pulls up next to me. I nod at the driver, he nods back, and without missing a beat he says.......... "THE BLACK ONES ARE THE FASTEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" The light changes, we both took off like being shot out of a canon and I smiled the whole way home. I guess it's true.

As we age, black becomes a more easily discerned color than others, thus giving the false impression of "faster". In reality yellow and ivory cream is the quickest!!

Put me on the black is fastest side of this discussion. An important side note: Mix a touch of Jade in with the black and they are faster still! It has some thing to do with light waves, heat transfer, air density, and the cool factor. You know....all that tech stuff.

We don't talk about it around the plain blacks though because we feel it's impolite to rub it in on those who either couldn't afford or were too cheap to pay for color.

Some valks and cages of varying colors are for unknown reasons faster than others of the same ilk. No one know why, they just are. The added speed and acceleration tends to cause the paint to burn in the atmosphere. This eventually causes the fastest ones to turn black. A day in the mind of Frye is sometimes a scary place.

Wasn't there an explanation for why Black was fastest a few years back? Seems it had to do with Black being "anti color" and was synonomous with "anti gravity", therefore making it faster than the speed of light as all light is absorbed by it..... I dunno, just a theory put forth by one of the "Einsteins" of the VRCC..... I put it up there with the "Flat Earth Society". JMHO.

I had my Chevy Trike out last week limbering up it's joints so to speak. This one: A Boss Hoss Trike pulled up in the lane next to me and was a goosing the RPM's so to speak. I looked around and low & behold there set an unmarked in the lane to my right headed to our left. I blipped the throttle a couple of times, light changed, Boss Hoss was squalling tires and puttin up a nice smoke screen. I gave the unmarked a chance to go & them followed him down the street & out into the new development housing. It took 4 units to get him slowed down and arrested. He tried to run, 1 radar car clocked him in the triple digits, inside the city limits. He unknowingly entered a dead end street, and gave up when he didn't have anywhere else to go. Turned out the Trike had been stolen from the Wally World parking lot about 8 or 9 blocks from the traffic control device... I tried running Lamont's Boss Hoss on the I-state at InZane 3, I think it was. we blipped en for short spurts. I was no competition to his bike...... I weight too much to run a Boss Hoss

In Sturgis '04 I ran one day, all day with a guy with a 403 Boss Hoss. It had a blower, AND NOS. That guy could squall his tire at 60 MPH!! It was a FLAT OUT ROCKET. But... he only got 10 MPG. So he was limited to 120 miles on a 12 gallon tank. At least I wsn't the ONLY one.
There was s guy in that group on a Valk too, and he was all embarassed that he didn't have a HD.
I embarassed those HD's a lot that couple days.

Mine used to be black, does that count. Now it is Blue and Silver. But not Honda blue. Mine is 04 Pontiac GTO Impulse Blue. Now the GTO being the FIRST muscle car. That would make my Blue and Silver Valkyrie the fastest. What do you think?

I say painting your boring Valk makes you smarter, and cooler than most. Not to mention more attractive to the fairer sex, and ... ah hell. It's a cool Valk. They ALL are after all.
I almost bought a black one. I was ready to, but found mine cheaper on e-bay. The rest is history.

Ahem, excuse me, but the Hemi was in production long before the GTO. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysler_Hemi_engineSo any vehicle with the original Hemi would have been deemed a muscle car I believe.

The GTO wasn't the first car with muscle, it was the first muscle car. Particulary the 64 as in light weight, good hp and torque. Car makers always allowed a good idea to get bigger and heavier. There were other cars with muscle in 64 but no hemi Darts, big block Chevelles, or cobra jet Mustangs. I remember, I was there and I was a car nut even then.

Are you counting the 63 Vette with the 327/375hp fuel injection? I was there too (except mine was a 64 coupe, a 65 roadster with the 327/365 hp, and a 66 GTO convertible with the 389 & 4 speed Hurst.

I guess it's different for everyone, I would not count the Vette as a muscle car. Fast, yes sexy, yes advanced technology, yes cool, yes expensive, yes. I suppose I'm saying it was in a class by itself. It's like the new supercharged Vette. It and a SRT-8 Challenger are not in the same class but I would look at the Challenger as a late model muscle car. My first car was a 64 Barracuda ( still have it) but my second car was a 67 GTO Ram Air 1 car (wish I still had it).

Andy you are correct. Anything with a Hemi would have had muscle. BUT the orginal muscle car was an intermeadiate body car with a more powerful and bigger engine. In 1964 GM had a rule. No car could have an engine bigger than 10% of its weight. The Lamans at the time weighed 3500 pounds. Thus no engine bigger than a 350. Pontiac didnt make a 350 then, so the 326 was it. John Delorean decided to take a 389 tri-power out of a Catalina and put it in a Lemans and called it the GTO. Thus the muscle car era had begun. Most of the bigger engines were in much larger cars, like the 421 catalina's, 409 Impala's,413 Dodges and the 427 Fords as well as many others. A lot of cars prior to 64 could have been called muscle cars I suppose but that destinction goes to the GTO.......P.S. Although the Vette had muscle it was considered a Sports Car.
