Carb #1 should have a boost cap on the intake nipple desmogged or not.  The only hose you should have from the intakes are on #6 to the fuel petcock, if your petcock is stock.

Yes. To clarify, when you removed all of the "smog" equipment, you were still left with a series of rubber hoses. 6 of them go to the bottom of the carburetors. Each carb has an outlet on the float bowl. These are not vacuum lines, but drain lines for the carbs should you wish to drain them. I remove these as I never use them and it cleans up the engine considerably.
If you used a desmog kit, it should have come with 5 vacuum caps. These go over the ports on the down tubes (shiny chrome tubes from carbs to engine block). Their should be a cap on #1, #3, #5 on the right side and #2 and #4 on the left side. Hint: each spark plug wire is numbered.
#6 should have a vacuum hose that goes to the petcock. That is the only vacuum hose you should have.
Don't forget to block the unused hole in the air box.
Also, if you want to go "vacuum hose-less" altogether, you can replace your petcock with a pingle manual petcock.
Hope this helps and welcome to the board.
