Yes, it can be done.
First, paint it with ceramic 1600-degree for Auto exhaust manifolds (NAPA). Then use 500-degree Engine Paint in Black.
I prefer Satin Black.

That's what I did to my Bronco's manifolds. It seems to be working fine.

Last week I used the NAPA "ceramic"
and painted the engine on my Black standard.

Next, I'll be doing the Satin Black coat.
BTW, I painted both, my I/S and my Standard's wheels two years ago using just the Satin Black.
They still look pretty good to people like you and I who like the Blackout look.

Total investment: $18 bucks. Time on each wheel 5 minutes, no need to remove the wheels or to mask anything.

Just jack her up. Start by slowly spinning the wheel while painting from the Axel behind the disk out to the whole wheel.
With the engine I took my time masking-taping over the chrome pieces on each side that I did not want to paint.

One hour and two beers later I was done masking. Painting the engine & transmission took me 5 minutes on each side.
After painting, use a small Led Flashlight to find small coves that need to be shot. I found none.

After painting your stacks, start the Lady and idle for 5 minutes. Then go and ride it like you stole her!
