Am I the only one that is annoyed with the kick stand? Every now and then when I come to a stop, like at a light, when I put my left foot down my heal sometimes catches the kickstand and kills the bike.
Just wondering if I'm the only one that has this issue.

It hasn't happened to me, but the kick stand is very light and small and it doesn't take much to fold it out...
What has happened to me numerous times is that I reach for the turn signal and blow the horn instead...

I'm with Mike... done that a bunch of times. With the floorboards and heel shifter, I can't kick the kickstand accidentally.

I have a 2001 Wing. Owned it from new.
Kickstand is same/same as the 2014 Valkyrie I own, too.
Never had this issue. Don't know why this would happen??

Wonder if it's your pants? Perhaps they are longish and trip the KS tab? I'm like a 10 USA size boot and wear lots of different boots ... western, combat, engineer, yada, yada. I'm always in boots. Never had this issue ??? Hope you find out how this happens. Could be a safety issue IMO.

Let it be said before hand,
I don't know what the hell I'm talking about.
Okay, now that we got that taken care of.
When we 1st got the Kawa motors on the CHP, a couple of us had that problem.
We were putting our foot down tooooo close to the side of the bike.
We'd accidentally hit the Kick stand and omph, she'd die. Very embarrassing if we did it at a light just as it changed to GREEN.
To this day, when riding 2 wheels, I have a tendency to lean to the left and put my foot out to the left a little further.

I was thinking a bit ... between conversations with Kris, watching a movie on TV and typing / reading stuff Online. Here's a couple deals I tho't about. Depends on how long your legs are. If you have a 8.5 boot size, I'm guessing you have legs shorter than my 36 pants size, eh? If so, when I put my boot down ... my leg is farther from the bike than yours with the same / same saddle height. Correct? This may have you put your foot / boot closer to the tang on the KS and engage same. Causing the failure to have power when the light changes. Of course this is stupid stuff that I'm typing ... I have no idea, just guessing. That said, when I come to a stop, I gear down and have BOTH feet on the ground at stop with clutch / brake engaged. Some times, I'm in neutral if the stop is particularly long. But, if you can't have both feet 'on the ground' this may be part of the problem ??? JMFAO here.

Get an Euro Kick stand. It'll go in the right hand side. Problem solved!

you may be partially right. I have a 30" inseam. I can just sit flat footed. Wonder if it's your pants? Perhaps they are longish and trip the KS tab?

No, it's the heal of my boot. not my pants. Let it be said before hand,

Yup, you know how I feel. but I haven't killed the bike but two times, both while the light was still red.

What I am thinking is that the little round bar you use to put your kickstand down is bent too far out and you are accidentally catching it. Center your bike up in a chock or on the jack (on the ground). With the kickstand UP, is the little bar tucked nicely up in the cutout in the OE exhaust? If not, put a small piece of PVC or pipe over the little bar and bend it so it fits snugly up in the exhaust cutout.
Also, is your kickstand return spring shot?
I also have a short inseam (boards and heel toe shifter) and never had this problem. The little round bar can get bent a bit from a variety of causes, I have repositioned mine in this manner before.
EDIT: I see from your avatar you have cobras, so you probably do not have an exhaust cutout..... still, bend the deployment bar tighter to the bike when up.

Keep in mind that we are on the 1800 board, and although I still have my 2002 standard photo as my avitar, we are on the 1800 board. So with that in mind, we are talking about the 2014 valk, not the 2002 valk. PS I updated my profile to prevent further confusion.
... and also i hit the horn trying to cancel the blinkers lol.
Having a 2001 GW with the horn and blinker switches in opposite positions from the New Valkyrie ... I blow my horn at lots of folks on the Valk ! You should see the looks as I sit in a line of traffic ... waiting for the light to change and I want (WANT !) to turn on the left blinker. But, instead, I blow the obviously LOUD horn ! Well, the looks I got were nothing like the 'single finger salute' I got from the dude in front of me in the F-250. I have to be careful.

no your not the only one, out of the 28 or so bikes i have had I have never experienced this, I wear a size 12 boot, it happened to me twice the other day, this could be a big safety issue, having been rear ended by a ute whilst riding my diavel and almost killed it brought back memories I was trying to forget, I wouldn't be surprised if Honda do something about this, that said what a great bike.

Les, this happens to me on my 07 Wing from time to time. Done it about 6 times in the 2 years I have owned it. I think, like RJ, that I am putting my foot down too close to the bike, since I am short and fat... But, if I am thinking about it, I can put my feet down without this happening. Hay Jimmyt

Hey Brew, you were probably riding lost again down a rough dirt road and that kick stand was jarred too far down! Just a thought. Firefighter
