I have the regular power port (cigarette lighter) and have a dual USB plug that goes in it.

There are at least a couple of, and possibly more, manufacturers of USB charging ports with weatherproof caps for mounting on motorcycles.  Here are two:

http://www.3brpowersports.com/

I have the 3BR Powersports TAPP Lite 1.2A charger mounted near my handlebars where I can plug in my iPhone. I have it wired to the accessory circuit which is only on with the key.  It is held on with the double-sided foam tape that came with it, and it has stayed put for the one year I've had it. If I were to do it again I would get the 2.1A version because it doesn't charge my phone quite as fast as I'd like it to. Here's where I put it:

Dear friend

There isn't much of a secret at doing it. It is just a matter of connecting the cables in the battery (and making sure that positive goes with positive, black with black). If you have an original Yuasa battery, it may be a problem to install with the original screws (that are way too short). I solved the issue by getting some allen screws at Lowes.

In my bike, I installed a socket that can be used to power my Garmin Zumo *and* a USB adaptor that I can plug any cable into it (currently used to power my smartphone).

Some suggestions:

a) fused socket (136A, I can also use it to power a compact air compressor when I need and if I ever travel to a chilly place, can be used to power electric vests): $19

b) the USB adaptor (2.1A): US$11

Cheers

You can see below my setup using the parts that I pointed at amazon (it is not great, but gets the job done and costed me 30 bucks!):

a) The handlebar socket

b) 2 cables in the tank pouch (one is a stereo cable plugged in the Valkyrie Interstate sound system and the other is a regular USB cable):

c) The cables in detail:

d) Routing the cable through the side cover:

Here is the one Gryphon Rider showed the pic for, and I used on my GW. Mounted in my front pouch. I left it wired direct to the battery, so I could charge my devious while I was off the bike.
