I have a 1997 honda valkyrie tourer. I installed a 2000 model interstate trunk along with the interstate fender rails. Saddlebags lids will hit the trunk. Any suggestions. Thanks.

You need Interstate hinges. The lids will lift off and hang off the sides of the saddlebags.

Thanks...can you get them from the Honda shop?

No dealer likely has them.

You need to spend some time on a parts fishe and order them. (a whole collection of bitty parts)

They are not Interstate hinges, they are cable ties that allow the lids to lay over on the side of the bag.

There are two ties per bag, and the hinges are replaced by clips.

#55, 28, 26, 52, 42, 30, 16, 29, 49, 41, 25, 2, 27 and maybe some others (2 or 4 of everything).  Fishe is hard to follow.  It would be helpful if you could find an interstate to look at the lids and mounts with a xerox copy of the parts fishe in hand.

The interstate bag lids also have side legs to hold the lids off the bags when laid over on the side (paint protection) (19, 20 and hardware).  If you have bag rails or are careful, you don't really need the legs.

As the interstate was rushed to market in '99, the hinged tourer lids were discovered to be a problem with the trunk as you have found, and this cobbled-together deal was the solution.

Which reminds me, I need a new #26 myself.

One problem exists; the Tourer bag lids don't have the attachment points for the cables used by the I/S lids. The later models...yes, early Tourers....no. My '98 didn't and I had to find two I/S lids to use with the trunk I adapted to the bike.

That, I didn't know John.

That (lids) can get expensive.

He could still just get the clips to replace the hinges (without the cables), but then the lids are not secured when removed.  I left my cables off for a few years, and eventually, one blew off the bike after a big bump and was run over by a minivan.  Thus my experience having to get all the little bits for a new (used) lid.... and I guess I just lucked out getting one with attachment points.

When I sold my bags from my wrecked IS, I swapped the hinges from my ACE Tourer with the old IS hinges, as I was going to mount the IS trunk on my Tourer.

I did find somewhere to mount the ties onto the lid. If you can't find anything, then there are these for you to use if you want. Rudy's Lid Keepers.

You may also be able to find someone who wants to swap the lids/hinges.
