Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives is a favorite show of mine. When I had to go to Long Beach earlier this year and drive back, one of the highlights was hitting several Triple D locations on the way back.

So here is my request: Post you favorite hole-in-the-wall eating establishment. Here are the rules.

1. Must be in TEXAS or 60 miles of the state line.
2. May not have more than 3 locations.
3. Must post the name of the Restaurant, a mappable address, and your favorite menu item.

I plan to create a webpage with the contributions and coordinate some rides for some of the locations.

OK here goes...

Maria's Taco Xpress
2529 South Lamar Blvd.
Austin, TX 78704

Favorite Item:  Migas Taco - it's like comin' home!

My favorite breakfast taco joint - plenty of parking and good coffee, too!  Opens at 7:00am.

I think the triple "D" show has already been there.

That's a great one, Jr!  We managed to eat there twice in three days when we were passing through in June!  The time before that we made it for the live Gospel music on Sunday morning - great food, great chimichurri, and truly south Austin with the hippie chick dancing with her boa constrictor!

I was looking for a South Austin place to eat for the final Hooter's run. Looks like we found it.

http://arnoldburgers.com/ in Amarillo. Their online menu looks pretty good, but there is no way to see the unique taste that is in the burgers.....HUGE burgers. I'd bet my last cheeseburger was 10 ounces of meat.. Their onion rings are the best I've ever tasted (and a 300#@ Texan has eaten a lot of different onion rings). Their fried green tomatoes are wonderful also.....haven't found stuff I don't like yet. cooldude

The absolute best hamburger diner is Tom's Burgers in Arlington at the SW corner of I-30 and Cooper Street.  It's in one of those chrome buildings that Denny's built a few years ago.  The burgers are incredible - 1/3 lb or 1/2 lb. If you get the 1/2 lb, you can get it cooked like you want it - from medium rare to well done.  The buns are always fresh and aren't typical hamburger buns.  They are toasted buttered brioche buns.  The veggies are crisp. Juicy and hot, they are the best burgers anywhere.  Milk shakes made with real ice cream and served with the metal blender bowl holding the extra shake. And then the onion rings.  I've had a lot of onion rings in a lot of different places but none compare with the light crust and flavor of Tom's onion rings.  They have spoiled me so much I won't eat onion rings anywhere else.

They also have breakfast and other entrees but the burgers are so good that I've never tried the chicken fried steak. That says a lot for those of you that know me.

I wish they had a meeting area or an area we could meet in, but no such luck.

Dang, so many fine eating places in the panhandle.  So here is my first town.

Sammy's BBQ in Borger Texas.  Sole owner not related to any others in TX.
Best ribs and sauce I have ever had. My personal favorite is the BEAN SPECIAL. Good beans with chopped beef, chopped or sliced sausage, ham and if you want a couple of ribs (extra).  Served in a big take out bowl, most cannot eat it all in one sitting.
Usually get a couple of pieces of Texas Toast for sopping up juices.

Some of the best breakfast cooks in the area work in the Nu Way Cafe. When you order sunny side up and lace the edges. That is what you get. Great pies too!

We are checking out the Green Mesquite in Austin this weekend based on the triple D show.  Of course will have to make the Blue Bonnet Cafe in Marble Falls on the way down and Cooper's BBQ in Llano on the way out.  WooooHooo!

Only open Friday-Sunday not too far from DFW airport.  Its all you can eat, the ribs and brisket are to die for.  If you want to drink something other than ice tea you have to bring it yourself.  First time I went there I thought the customers were strange bringing in their own drinks but thats the way they do it.
