I stopped  for gas today at a station I have never used before.  I started putting the gas in the tank and for one eason or another started day-dreaming.  The attendent yelled at me and I saw gas flowing out of the top of my tank, down the sides, all over the paint and on to the chrome carb stacks, engine covers and my transmission cover.  I don't know why the gas did not shut off when it reached the nozzle tip.  Maybe I had too much pressure on it, I don't know.  I do know I was sick about and washed the tank and engine down with a hose the guy had at the station.  I got home and washed the bike with soapy water, dried it, and then put a coat of wax on it.  I'm waiting for the chrome stacks and trans cover to start peeling, hope not!

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.

Sounds like you did right by washing it. I always use a paper towel and hold over the hole and then hold it up to the end of the noozle as I remove it from the bike. Limits the drips.
