Hello all,

last year my stock shield started to lose the protective coating on its surface, now it's shows even more and there are patches of the coating and areas where it is gone.

Until I can decide whether to get a new stock shield or a Clearview, is there a way to remove the remaining coating w/o ruining the shield?

The areas where the coating is gone is nice and clear so I don't want to ruin what's left.

Thanks & ride safe,

Mike

My original shield is getting in pretty rough shape too. Not sure which to buy.

I replaced mine with a Clearview, tinted with a vent. Couldn't be happier.

The remaining coating can be removed with tape.  I suggest blue painters tape.
Do Not use Duck Tape.

Hey Sandy,

I'm wondering about the Clearview, does it encompass the headlight area or is it open beneath the headlight. I've looked at their website for the Tourer models and the pictures are not clear to me as to whether or not it is the same as the stock shield.

I've priced out what I want on the Clearview site and it is less expensive than a OEM shield but I like the protection from bugs and stuff the OEM shield provides beneath the headlight.

Today I tried some Novus #2 Plexi polish and it worked great removing the remaining film and left the shield smooth and slippery. It took a few applications but it's easy to work with, it does leave a bit of dust but it blows/wipes away easy.

Mine has been replaced with the slightly larger than stock Clearview  W/ vent....love it !!! Novus cleaners are  easy to use , highly recommend even if you don't replace shield with a Clearview.

Ulflier, you have the same colors as my bike. Question about the clearview, is it the same as the OEM shield around the headlight or is the area beneath the headlight open?

THE AREA BENEATH THE HEADLIGHT IS OPEN ON A CLEARVIEW SHIELD.  THAT OPENING UNDER THE HEADLIGHT DOES NOT MAKE A BIT OF DIFFERENCE IMHO.  IT DOES MAKE IT EASIER TO CLEAN AROUND THE HEADLIGHT THOUGH.

...I like the protection from bugs and stuff the OEM shield provides beneath the headlight.

Get a spray bottle and fill it with fresh hydrogen peroxide - cheap, I bought a pint of it at a convenient store for 38ยข.  Spray it on the bugs and a microfiber cloth.  Even dried on bugs wipe of instantly with no scrubbing.  You will be amazed if you haven't used it. H2O2 expires on the shelf and also from sunlight so keep that in mind and keep it fresh.  If it bubbles on the bugs or on a wound or in your mouth it's still good.
