I happened to notice today that I have no low beam.  High bean still works.  I am hoping a bulb change will fix it.  Can someone stear me to a headlight bulb replacement diagram and recommend a bulb that will not melt anything and be good for my old eyes?

Since you refer to "a" bulb, I assume this is a Standard/Tourer.  A standard H4 at any local parts store for about $5.00 is the quick, easy fix.  Lots of other folks will chime in with better but more expensive options.

Best to stay in the same wattage range.

Too high a wattage can have disastrous effects on you wiring and other related electrical components.
