Reviveing a Battery?
«
on:

My fairly new boat battery sat idle for three years ago. It didn't freeze. Now dead, and the charger won't do anything to it.
Anyone ever get one going again?

Not sure if this will work for you or not, but it has worked for me before. Using booster cables, hook a good battery to your discharged battery, making sure it is pos. to pos. and neg. to neg. Leave it like that for 2 or 3 days. You can then try the charger on the discharged battery. It doesn't work on a junk battery but it will bring a badly discharged battery back to life. Worth a try.

First, I would plan on buying a new battery. You can take the old battery to an Auto Zone and have it tested, and when they tell you it has sulfated and is junk, you can pick up the new one

What frizz and Mich say is right. Plus, I've brought old junk batteries back by dumping out the acid, flushing them out with warm water, and adding new acid. Make sure you dry it off well before adding the acid. Adding water to acid isn't a problem ,but, sometimes adding acid to something wet can be problematic. I've never had a problem doing it, yet.

A dead battery (car-sized or larger) will require an high current (10A+) charger at least overnight to start charging. If your charger puts out only 2A, forget it.

Ditto on Gryphon Riders comment..a trickle charger won't work.

Check out the CTEK chargers. They can revive some batteries.
