Does anyone know what the brand and model is of the brighter instrument bulbs for a standard ? I remember seeing a great write up by a man from Manitoba that had tried a few different ones but can't find that thread by using search.
Any help would be appreciated...

Thanks

When we went to Savannah a couple of years ago, we didn't get
into town until after dark.

I realized how bad my tach and speedo lights were then.

When I got back I searched around on the tech board and
ordered these:

http://www.amazon.com/5-SMD-White-High-Power-Lights/dp/B0047RV8WG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407853141&sr=8-1&keywords=4x+194+168+5-SMD+White+High+Power+LED+Car+Lights+Bulb

I haven't installed them yet  Embarrassed ...

I posted the numbers [ along CP] not too long ago, within a couple weeks. I see if I can go get them again.
I know 158, 161, 194 are some that work but don't remember the CP. That'll be easy to look up though. 194 is the brightest [ highest candle power] of the 3, I remember that much.

Here's something you might want to think about. Brighter lights help some.  But one thing they do is shift the actual time you can't see the instruments to a little earlier in the evening (later in the morning) when you still can't see them because the skylight reflecting off the instruments crystal matches the light from the bulb.  I found putting a night switch on the instruments to shut them off until it's almost dark (evening) works a lot better to make the instruments visible.  There's plenty of contrast then to see the needle and the numbers.  I also have brighter bulbs, but it's not a complete answer. BONUS - your bulbs will last longer (if they are tungsten)  See http://www.horseapple.com/Valkyrie/Tech_Tips/Instrument_Lights/instrument_lights.html

The original bulb was 3 W on my Valk, standard.
I found same bulb in 5 W and it gave me exactly what i wanted Smiley

I did the switch and the cool white LED's. Very happy with this change as I do a lot riding during the hours of the day when the speedo numbers can't be seen. Now I stay legal. My thanks to those members who came up with this upgrade. I did find the that the LED bulbs had to be trimmed and fine wire used to hold them place. Bread bag ties worked great.

Just wanted to say thanks for this post. We changed out the OEM bulbs for the LED's last night, then had a ride home from Jim C's garage in the dark. WOW, what a difference. It is a lot easier to see the numbers. Thanks to Blackdog and Jim C for all their help.
