It is a job, but what better way is there to get to know these machines? On this new bike it is giving us the chance to polish everthing and clean up the rough spots. Almosy a complete restore on this. I really want to check out the carbs while the motor is out to make sure they are not leaking. If they are we will order new floats and needles and give them a good cleaning. Im pretty confident the carbs are fine and it was the old petcock that let gas leak down the vacuum to #6 cylinder. No matter what caused it it will get sever tanks of gas spiked with barrymans b12 after the job is done and a new pingle petcock and maybe even a dan marc since I have one on my shelf not being used. I also have a habit of turning my gas off a mile or 2 before I pull in my driveway to use up some of the gas in the carbs before parking it over night. Hope you get your bike up and running soon.
I ended up buying a second bike as a parts bike....so now i'm riding an I/S so I'm good now...
The stuff that I use and swear by: Marvel mystery oil....I replaced 1 of 4 quarts of oil with it and theres a formula for how many ounces per 5 gallons to put, i think it's 3 (fuel). After the previous owner pickled the engine with seafoam and berrymans b12...Marvel did the job.
Also. Your carbs WILL sometimes like from the fuel rail, this is normal...ride the bike for an hour or more...however long it takes for the seals/o-rings to swell. I've done this and my carbs haven't leaked since
