This is the least invasive method that I know of to desmog. It plugs up the six chrome tubes and two vacuum ports that connect the reed and pair valves to the engine. It's certainly cheap enough and easily reversible.

RedEye also has the Desmog Refit Kit. It might be more appealing to you than the Stealth Kit. FWIW

I just left the six chrome tubes connected and plugged the two large ports that leave the reed/pair valves. And do the the stuff with the vacuum lines you described.

You can get everything you need from your local auto parts store. Gas line and/or vacuum tubing and a few screws to fit tight in the tubing make great plugs. When I desmogged mine I used J/B weld in the end of the chrome tubes. If you going to all work this just to try it you may as well just do it and forget it. It worked well for me. Fyi, I did try one freeze plug, it too worked great. Will remove all the tubes at a later date. The vacuum tubing that redeye sells is very thin. I tried it and don't recommend it as it rips open easily if you ever need to adjust your carb synch. The autoparts store will be cheaper. One foot of each tube size should run ya a few bucks and you probably have a can of screws in the garage. I have never had a tube pop off the vacuum ports.
