After a benifit ride yest i got on the valk and turned the key. Hit start button and nothing. Had power to electronics, headlight worked and would go away when starter button was pressed. Turned key off and back on and she fired right up. No prbs a hr later when i went to leave. Just a fluke or a warning of something to happened. Starter button cleaned a month ago. 98 tourer

My Interstate used to do that, and it turned out to be the kill switch. Cleaned that, and the trouble stopped. If it does it again, just flip the kill switch back and forth a couple of times and try it again

I would clean the kill switch as Michvalk suggested. Something that I feel should be done almost like an oil change, idk what interval is good but it sucks when you out and the darn thing won't let the bike start. The standard is a bit harder to work on than the IS. Switches are the same, the housings and what you have to do to get to switch is different. I would also clean my dimmer switch when I did the kill switch. Dirty contacts in dimmer switch may cause you to be riding around with no headlights, at least in day time when you can't tell if the light is working while riding.

Lately my interstate won't crank in neutral.  I suspect the neutral switch is out of adjustment.  I will also clean the starter and kill switches just for the hell of it.

The neutral switch is within the engine cases.

No adjustment is available, nor needed.

AFAIK, if the neutral light is on when it should be, the switch is working.

Ricky-D, my neutral switch has needed adjusting since nearly new.  I usually have to spend a few seconds fiddling with the shifter to get the light to stay lit.  I'm not going to open up the engine just for this, however.
