Metal particles in my oil?
«

I finished my 2nd oil and filter change since owning my Valkyrie...
52,000+ miles, last changed at 44,000 with Rotella T6 (5W-40), 3.9 (4) quarts with a K&N filter.
I let the engine idle for 5-10 minutes, then drained the oil. I noticed some VERY small flecks of what looks like metal. Is this normal??
I have noticed NO problems with bike performance. I refilled the engine with Rotella T6 and put a Volar Motorsports filter on.
I also changed the rear gear (pumpkin) oil with Royal Purple 75-140 and oil appeared slightly milky.
Thoughts? Are the tiny, barely noticeable metal flecks normal?

See if the flakes will stick to a magnet. BUY A MAGNETIC DRAIN PLUG. This will tell you if they are metal or not. If so run about 1000 miles and change it again, see what the oil looks like. A small minut amount amy not cause you any issues but if it gets worse could leave you stranded. There are just to many variables at this point with the supplied info. Keep an eye on it. That is what I would do anyway.

Wish I had thought of that yesterday. Today I noticed the clutch seems to be smoother shifting. How much of the engine's insides are aluminum?
I don't really have any other info to add that I can think of as relevant. Other than what I mentioned it seemed like a normal change and the bike runs like a Valkyrie.
I'll definitely take your advice to heart and give it another change in 1000 miles or so. Thanks!

Get rear drive unit drain plug for the engine oil plug. It has a magnet and is the same size.
