Looking for some help on how to wire a smart phone into my interstate so I can use it as a gps while traveling.  I was hoping that it could be connected to the aux. and it would work the same way that the cb does.  This would allow me to listen to music from my phone and I hope that the gps would over ride the music.  I can do this through the phones ear phones, but I want to use my helmet ear phones so I can use the cb as well.

Thanks,
Rich

Under the right side cover there is an Aux plug to hook up a MP3 or IPod type device. I put a long wire jack on and routed It under the tank and up to the handle bars where I use my IPod.

But that wont allow the gps to override music playing. I don't think anything does, or does the cb?

There is a how-to in goldwingdoc to wire in a Bluetooth headset into the intercom system. This lets the connected devise override the intercom.

It will if the GPS over rides the music coming from his phone.

And this can be tested off the bike to make it even easier.  If the GPS overrides the music on the phone, it will work.  The CB will override everything, except the intercom I think.

I want to thank everyone for their help.  I have everything in my possession to hook it up.  However, I am going to wait until Friday to do the work.  I am waiting for an air filter to come in.  Figured I might as well change the filter when the tank is off to do the wiring.  This is the best place for information and all of the guys on this site are the best.

Thanks again,
Rich

Hey,

Just an FYI... if you don't install actually GPS App ( and even if you do) on your phone don't depend on it....

Most GPS's have all the Map info loaded into them and use GPS to mark location on the stored maps.

Most iPhone maps need a cell signal to update the map info because it uses the internet and phone signal to constantly update the map as you move..

You lose your cell signal... no Map!!!!!!!!  and a lot of the places we like to go, you might not get  a cell signal...

Also, it can be hard to see the screen in bright sunlight

I have been using some sort of iPhone for several years...3g, 4s, and now 5

The AUX option will feed whatever audio comes from the phone, so however you have that set up, it will feed that to your speakers/headset.  As Jimmy said, the CB will override that, meaning it will shut off the audio from the phone temporarily as long as you're receiving a CB transmission.  The intercom doesn't override in the same way.  It will overlay the intercom audio along with whatever other audio is going on.  So, if you're listening to music, and your backseater starts talking, the music doesn't shut off, you just hear both at once.  If the CB receives something, the music shuts off, but you still hear the CB and your backseater at the same time.  It actually works out quite well.  The only option it doesn't have that I wish it did, is a separate volume control for the back seat headset vs. the front seat headset.  My wife doesn't hear very well, and I wear ear plugs while we're riding two-up, so that she can hear, but I don't go crazy from the loud volume.

Mark, you can get an adapter for her helmet connection from EdSets that gives her a stereo port for ear buds.  I have a volume control from Radio Shack that fits between the adapter and my ear buds.  I have to turn the volume down, because the ear buds actually act as ear plugs AND play all audio from the bike.  Much less volume is needed using the ear buds.
Plus, if you got 2 of them, you could turn the audio up on the bike, down for your buds, and leave hers up at bike volume.
OR, buy yourself an adapter and volume control and turn the radio up for her and reduce the volume with your control.

EdSets website for the adapters.  Man, they went up $10 since I bought them.

Just a thought.

Not a bad idea.  The mic still goes through the main connector, but the speaker signal comes through the earbuds then?

Yes.  I cut the speakers off of the headset with the mic and sealed the wires so water doesn't short them out.  The speakers still work with this adapter.  The adapter just taps the stereo audio and provides a 1/8" head phones jack for the ear buds.
