I tapped into the brown wire, part of the rear wiring harness to run some addition running lights and tail lights. Everything was fine until about 200 miles into a trip. I stopped for gas and when I got going again I notice that the tach wasn't working. Next stop I checked the fuse box and found that the fuse for the tach and tail light had blown. Replace it and it popped again. Disconnected my wiring job, replaced the fuse and the tach worked again. My problem is now even when I put a test light to the brown wire I blow a fuse. Replace the fuse again and the tail light, tach, and kick stand warning light all work fine???

Follow the wires and find the ground, that's usually the culprit. Also make sure the new connection is well insulated, like with Liquid Electrical Tape. Check the plug in the joint where the rear section of the fender separates, a good high speed bump can make the tire hit that plug.
Let us know, Fred.
