Its that time... Ned to replace the Bridgestone Exedra on the front...

Best place/price to get online?

Avon? Bridgestone? Dunlop? I have not tried the Avons on any bike.

Running Darkside on back..... Falken

Once you choose your tire, shop it on Amazon (generally includes free shipping).  They can be beat, but not often.

Edit: yes, you do need to factor in instal price, I have a reasonable guy and it makes no difference if I buy from him or not.

If someone else is doing the mounting, find your best price online then see if he can match it. The place that mounted my new Avons was within a couple bucks on the price and guaranteed me a fresh tire. I think the best price I found online was from motorcycle superstore or bike bandit...I don't remember. I switched from Dunlops to Avons and am very happy.

As discussed awhile back, I am trying out a new Michelin Commander II Motorcycle Tire Front - 140/75R-17.  (OE Front is 150/80R-17).

It is only a bit narrower than the OE 150, but the 75 is around a half inch shorter than the OE 80.  Tire was introduced in around 2012 and has rave reviews all over the web for both handling and longevity.

I have about 4K+ on mine and I frankly do not have a lot of faith that it will do better than my 9K Metzler OE-size fronts (but I always get less miles than many do).  But that said, it is a marvelous tire that handles well and holds the road in all conditions, including wet.  I rate it as good as Metz, which for me is top of the line (I have not run any Avon Cobras).  I really have not noticed any difference in riding it from the size/height difference, in leans or any other way.  It had little if any release agent and did not require 1-200 miles of careful riding from new (I was still careful for about two hours).

And it is a decent bit cheaper than Metz/Avon OE size tires. ($141.77 & free shipping)

Heading out for the Ann Arbor area shortly to visit family.

I run a metz me880 on mine, last I heard about shinko is they changed owners and the quality is better, I know they had problems with some of the cheaper tires but haven't heard of many complaints with the 890. Guess he will find out.

I gotta say, despite what I've heard here on the board, I love the Bridgestone G701 I have on teh front now.  It was cheaper than even the Metz Bias (I had been running a Metz 880 and loved it, but at 11000 it was slick).  I'm got over 12000 on this tire and it looks like it has half it's life left, and a nice round profile still.  the Metz squared up prety quickly.  I ride 20 miles each way, super slabs to work every day in the DFW area, so it does tend to be alot of straight up riding.  Same as I was on the metz though.  I can't say I'm a severe twisties rider, I just dont get much chance, but what I do get to ride, the tire gives me confidence.  Never felt like it was going to give up on me.  I do drag the pegs periodically and I've never felt an issue with the tire.  The only downside is that it seems a bit noisy.  I run 42 front and rear.  Since I switched to Bridgestone on the rear, the noise increased so I do think it's tires, but otherwise I love the tires.  I will admit I do very little rain riding, but I have and didn't feel a problem with the tires, but I hate riding in the rain anyway so I may not be a good judge...

I completely agree with Big Ugly...   That's what I do and I'm always on Avon Cobras.

I plan to replace the Avon with a Michelin Pilot ACTIV 130 90/17 just to be a guinea pig and go double dark side. And it will be real soon since the Avon that looked almost new when I picked up the Girl last November barely made 10k this year. Of course, I would have been replacing it soon anyway since it is a 5 year old tire.

I will be really interested in how that works for you. Keep us informed please.

I have a new Avon on the front. The guy that organizes our rides swears by them, we'll see.

Better to be judged by 12, then carried by 6.
