Tucson - Its a dry heat

« on: August 30, 2014, 10:29:55 PM »

New oldguy with a Valk here.  Just picked up a 2000 IS this week, and am changing the oil, putting on a correct front tire (the PO had a GL1800 tire on that was literally 2" shorter), and basically going through all the wear stuff.

One odd thing I can't figure out is that the rider's left footpeg is at least 1" lower than the right.  I pulled off the hardware for a heel/toe shifter from the PO, but the mounting plate and the peg are stock.  I actually dragged the left peg on my test ride - I don't do that much these days...  Bought this rig specifically to replace a GL1200 tug (blew a motor 25 miles outside Wall, SD a couple weeks ago, but that's another story), so at that point the odds of dragging the pegs will be greatly reduced Roll Eyes.

But... I can't figure out why the peg is lower.  Did a search; did several googles actually, but could not find anything relevant; except for some folks who make peg lowering kits...  I'm about to the point of either buying a bracket/peg from ebay and cutting off the mount and moving up an inch, or maybe seeing if a VTX peg would fit; it appears it does not have the lowering offset.  I'm in Tucson, and have not seen many Valks around here to compare with.

Been lurking a couple day; looks like a great forum with knowledgeable and friendly folks; I look forward to participating.

Regards all.

Have you looked at Shoptalk halfway up this page? Click on that and then click on Honda Valkyrie Microfiche. Look through the different fiche there is one of the footpegs and brackets. Click on the fiche and it goes full screen.
Maybe something is missing or has been altered.

The Rattle Bars lowering kit had a chrome plate on the left side that bolted to the stock plate.  Are you able to post a pic?  I have seen this before and its always been a lowering plate.
