Ok....I have to be missing something really obvious... replaced the right rear blinker (first time, yes first one since 97) and to begin with it worked... now none of my blinkers work.  However, when I turn the blinkers to the right, the right front blinker shuts completely off and like wise with the left front.  Neither of the rear blinkers light up and either point.

did you install an 1156 bulb. which has one contact. or did you install an 1157 which has 2 contacts. 1156 in the rears and 1157's in the front.

I installed the 1156 and when I pulled the other rear blinker bulb it was the same as the new one. Even tried swapping sides...same result

Could there be a short that caused the first bulb failure ?

I suppose that is possible but that bulb has been in their since I purchased the bike new in 1997 so I'm guessing it's getting time to replace some of the lights.  Smiley

Check the ground. Start with the one from the battery to the engine block. Then check the connection under the rear fender, where the joint is to remove the fender.  cooldude

Also, I'm going to assume that a short of some kind caused this to happen.  I'll check the grounds to make sure they are tight and if that isn't it... other ideas?

3-W, My right(front) turn signal was not working. Running light on but no blinker. Pulled bulb checked numbers. No luck at The Zone. Closest I could get is a 1157. Problem is that blinker(with 1157) now blinking real fast and much brighter than other. Let me mention that I pulled the properly working one out (left) side, and switched them. I know both sockets are ok. Just want to make sure about that 1157 being correct?

1157 should be the proper ones for the front. there should be 2 elements in the bulb and 2 nubs on the base. if the rear signal is not working the front will blink real fast.

If the bulbs are installed 180 degrees off, the signals will work, but flash very fast. Don't ask me how I know...

I ended up just replacing the fuse... checked the connections and everything seemed tight.  Not sure yet what caused it... Been riding it for about a week both in-town and interstate driving with no issues.
